(Timeline Tuesday #55)
Shouses are enormous creatures ranging from forty to sixty feet tall. They are humanoid in appearance, with a lean, muscular body that’s covered in dull yellowish skin. The creatures sport four fingers and four toes on each of their limbs, but no fingernails or toenails. Instead, each digit is quite hard and sharp, ending in a distinct point. Shouses uses these firm fingers and toes to dig through the ground.
The most unique portion of a shouse’s appearance is their distinct, cubic head with a triangular “roof” placed at the top. These heads can vary in dimension, but they are always rectangular and resemble a small cottage home. The color of a shouse’s head will vary, ranging across the spectrum of hues and shades. The most common colorations, however, are grey, white, tan and brown.
Shouses spend their days with their bodies buried deep underground and their heads sitting atop the surface, creating the distinct illusion of a natural house you might find anywhere on this timeline. They will remain this way for months, even years, if they are not disturbed. During this time, shouses are in a deeply meditative state, something that’s very important to their culture.
Unlike other timeline intruders who use disguise on this reality, shouses are not sneaky hunters. While their mouth does appear quite similar to a door, and people have been known to wander inside, a shouse will immediate spit these visitors out. They are gentle creatures, and strict herbivores. Instead, shouses hide out of fear, preferring to remain unseen on this timeline despite their massive size. This outsider lifestyle allows them more time to meditate.
When a shouse is in its trance, the “windows” of its head are unlit. However, upon waking up the two front windows will glow with brilliant yellow illumination.
