DOLLFIN - TIMELINE #9620190

(Timeline Tuesday #49)

Dollfins are a species of aquatic mammal with grey skin and a powerful tail, which they use to propel themselves through water at incredible speeds. In many ways their body resembles the natural dolphins of this timeline, but the head of this creature marks a huge distinction. While natural dolphins sport a pointed nose and a bulbous head, the cranium of a dollfin features a hard, humanoid face with a notable material difference from the rest of the creature’s body.

Many assume the head of a dollfin is made of plastic. However, dollfin faces are actually just a shell, with a biological structure similar to that of a clam or oyster. The hair sprouting from the top of a dollfin’s skull is real hair, which can range in color from blonde, black, brown and red.

While many find the sight of a dollfin unsettling, these creatures are actually quite friendly. They are highly intelligent animals, possessing all the ingenuity of a natural dolphin while also displaying more kindness than their counterparts. They swim the ocean in pods of ten to fifteen members, surviving only in salt water.

Another huge distinction between dollfins and dolphins is their method of communication. While the latter species sends underwater messages through a series of clicks and chirps, dollfins can speak any number of languages, depending on the native language of nearby humans. Over the course of this creature’s life, they will develop five or six key phrases which they can reproduce in an exact cadence every time. Typical phrases for a dollfin are: “Will you be my friend?” “I’m hungry!” or “Hahaha, that’s silly!”
