Fantoms (also known as Atellsa) are energy-based entities, similar to poltergeists, but with extremely limited power in the physical realm. However, unlike poltergeists, these creatures are technically not ghosts. The home timeline of fantoms is a strange, ethereal place beyond our understanding, where carbon-based life is non-existent. Instead, all sentience is manifested through pure energy.
On this timeline, fantoms find themselves at a severe disadvantage while interacting with matter, but this species has fortunately developed a work-around.
Small, mobile fans with wheels at the base have been developed to help these creatures thrive on our timeline. These fans are controlled with simple energy pulse commands, which are easy enough for the fantom to produce. When active, the machines create a small cloud of water particles that dance in the air in a swirling mist that a fantom can interact with. They use this create a vague representation of themselves in the physical realm.
This allows fantom’s to interact with our timeline in a limited, but concrete way.
Fantom’s do not require food for sustenance, but instead replenish themselves through contact with electrical energy sources. They cannot speak verbally, but communicate through simple psychic messages while in proximity of a living brain’s electrical currents. Fantom’s are natural explorers, which is likely what brought them to this timeline in the first place. Hungry for knowledge, they are always up for adventure. Typically, they must leave behind their fans while traveling, taking these journeys as quiet observers.
