Wrestle Team- first sketches

Hey everyone!

I've been sketching some character ideas for the Wrestle Team, and these are the first results.

Now, when I designed these girls, I didn’t just start somewhere :)  I actually had quite a few requirements in mind that I wanted to meet. And these requirements usually determine 80% of a characters look.

So this is what I had in mind for the girls:

• Their outfits should show that they belong to the same team, yet the outfits should be unique.
• I wanted them to wear retro-futuristic wrestle outfits (plus a training jacket).
• There should be a bit of skin visible at all times (To show some muscles...and because, well... you know!).

So to make this all work; I eventually gave all outfits a  V-shape and added some ‘hard edges’in the fabric (like shoulder pads from the 80’s). I should also pull the colours together, but that’s for later.

• Each girl should look strong, but have a different build.
• Each girl should have a different wrestle technique/approach. (Strength, tactics, agility).
• Each girl should have a different  personality (Harsh, indifferent, optimistic/naughty).

Now when trying to show a  personality, I find it the easiest to do that in a characters pose.

And for this I did a bit more exploring, as you can see below.

Now a final consideration when designing these girls, was that their wrestle-poses also have to match each other...because there will be a mini-game around this match! And so I had to make a rough sketch for this as well.

 
Now, I know what this looks like, ... but you won’t be fighting here :) Instead Keen will be cheering for his favourite girl. Cheer hard enough, and you will unlock your girls special moves!

Well, there always goes a lot of planning in a character design...but it seemed to be tripple-true for these girls. But now that I have the big picture more or less complete, I can pick a girl, and start refining her.

That should be fun!

But these designs are not all set in stone yet, so if you have any suggestions* please let me know :)

* I did consider adding an alien to this team, but that would give the story a second focus, which would not really work here I think. Although I thought quite long about this tempting option :)
