Lvl 1 Poll -Update 9.0- What story to continue?

Hey everyone,

It's poll-time again!  And by casting your vote, you will determine the development direction of this game :)

Now at the moment I'm finishing the Doctors story (which will be released soon as game-update 8.5). And in August I will start on the next part of the game again - but what I will make is up to you...

So please let me know which story I should add next!

1. Help the wrestle team!

A female wrestle team got stuck on a high-gravity planet, after training there for the upcoming World Cup Wrestle Games.  Can you save them from the planet & get them home in time?

2. Competitive gaming!

A bored biker girl is looking for entertainment, while waiting to get her bike  repaired. But when she claims Keens refurbished Arcade Game, they end up in a heated competition with some interesting stakes to play for!

3. Droid building!

Keen recently got himself a Droid kit, and it’s about time to put things together! But this sexy droid is more then just a playful puppet...

Well,  I'm curious to see what you will choose!

All the best!

-Robin

Ah! I agree, the origional text was hard to read. But there is a book called 'understanding comics' which is a sort of refined interpaertation of the hero's journey. And there is another book 'The Visual Story' that also elaborates on the idea, but then to make good supporting images for stories. These 2 books have been the most important tools for me as an artist/game developer -I highly recommend them!

Yes! Joseph Campbell :-). A (hopefully) funny story for you --> When I was in university, Campbell's text, where he put forward his concept of the hero's journey, was required reading for one of the courses I (coincidentally) did not take. One of my own professors joked with us in class that, at the end of the school year, you could always find multiple used copies of Campbell's text in the university bookstore -- and that most of them had only been read about a quarter of the way through, if that. :-) Basically, he was saying that Campbell had great ideas, but that the writing style of his text made it a tough read for most people. I also had other students -- who were very smart and capable people -- warn me against Campbell's writing style as well. I never did read that text myself -- I had enough reading going on in my own courses -- but something tells me Campbell's text is probably one of those scholarly ideas best looked up on Wikipedia or elsewhere online. :-) Not all smart people are good at communicating to a general audience, I guess! Thanks for the reply, Robin. Best to you and yours, as ever!

Thanks :) There is actually a sort of formula for telling a classic story; it's called the Hero's Journey. It starts with the hero entering an unusual stuation (the adventure), where he/she then has to overcome several trials, before finally overcomming his/her biggest obstacle. And after completing that task, there is also 'the way back', which usually gives the viewers the closure they are looking for. And I applied this as well to Space Rescue. The 'Hero's Journey' is very interesting reading material I think :) PS. A simple and clear example of this setup can be seen in the movie Labyrinth (the one with David Bowie).

Thanks, Robin! I figured you had some sort of structure working here, but I figured I'd ask. I think it's wise, for whatever that might be worth. One of the great story-telling weaknesses of so-called "Open-World" games, in my opinion, is that when every event has equal significance then they all become equally insignificant as well; the "story" is merely a sequence of random events. So I agree with you; having a set beginning sequence and a set ending sequence helps make a story out of the events. Plus, it mirrors the way the human mind tends to make significance out of events. We take all the events we experience and attach significance to specific occurrences: "This happened when I started following Space Rescue" and "This is how I felt when Space Rescue was completed". We automatically organize events in our lives into stories, based on how their events affected us. So, yeah, I think you're on a good and interesting path here. Thanks for sharing some of your creative secrets! Be very well!

Hey Dacer! I gladly explain what I have planned! :) So the game has a fixed starting point, which is Lune her story. And in the middle of the game, you can play the stories in more or less any order, although there are some real dependencies between two stories, which limit your free choice (like an item you need in story B, can only be found in story E). Now each of these stories from 'the middle', will give you 1 item, that you eventually need to 'unlock' the 2 'final' stories. These final stories really give a conclusion to the overall story. One of these stories will brings Keen closer to having an actual 'girlfriend' (The astronaut in Pink). While the other story is more about the future of the Green Beetle, and the Captain. And the Captains story is the real ending of the game. Now I choose this story-model, to keep some control over the flow of the game; and towards the end everything should get a bit more exciting -the story, gameplay & also the type of sex scenes. Many people have for example been expecting a 3-some or so...but I deliberatly planned those more towards the end :) - And finally; Yes, it's really up to the Patrons what stories I will work on next, although I control the outcome a bit as well, by giving only 3 choices (instead of 15 or so) -which is very important from a practical standpoint of course :) All the best! Robin

Robin

Oh yes, it will indeed be a droid like that :)

Robin, I'm curious: are there any parts of the game that hold a specific place in the game's story, or can all of the chapters appear anywhere, depending on where patrons put their votes and/or what you feel like doing on a given day? For example, are you planning a specific story sequence for the game's end, or can any chapter story happen anywhere? I have no preference either way, I'm just curious about how you've structured your game. Thanks for the ongoing entertainment. Be very well!

Dacer

Will it be a sexy Droid like in the style of Hajime Sorayama?
