Hey everyone!
So this week I worked on Sophie her animation. In my previous post, I showed my sketches. And based on that, I made this animation-sketch. This first step mainly helps me to see if the animation loops properly.

Now after I found a good animation-loop, it was time to detail the image. As ussual, I first do line work and then colors. Eventually I merge all layers together & do a lot of freehand painting over that image to soften the look.
And this is the result:

Next, it was time to draw Keen.
Now since he makes quite a big movement with his hips, it seemed best to start with the most neutral pose first. Once done, I copied that pose a few times & adjusted each copy, so Keen would animate fluently. Now to make it easier for myself, I always try to seperate some bodyparts, so I can animate those one at a time.
Here you can see Keens basic animation. Note that I still had to animate Keens arms.

I also flip my canvas occasionally, to be able to have a fresh look at what I'm making. That way it's easier to spot errors.
Next I divided Sophie her illustration in various animation parts & repeated my animation proces. Once all body parts were moving, I flattened the entire frames & cleaned everything up again.
And this is the final result:

What you see here are 4 unique frames, that are played at a 0.2 second interval.
In the game this animation will be combined with several facial expressions for Sophie, and the scene will of course have some unique poses for the start & end of the scene.
Well, I hope you like it!
Have a great weekend :)
