Location: The pool

Hello again!

Here is another work in progress-GIF, to give you some insights on how I develop the art for Space Rescue :)

So, one of the things on my to-do list was drawing 'the pool' (where Keen & the girls would be relaxing in their pool floats).

Now  I thought, this would be one of the easier drawings to make. But... it actually became a  bit of a struggle :)  I was  pretty happy with my initial setup (first image), but as  I started detailing it, something started to feel wrong.

I couldn't put my finger on it at first, but then I realized what happened;

So, even though it's painful to do; I had to cut up my image & try again.

And after all that, it suddenly felt right again. So now I can comfortably start refining the image, without worrying about the composition anymore, pfew!

Well, that's it for this art update,

I love to hear what you think of it :)

All the best!

-Robin

Hey Adem, no worries- I would probably have asked the same question, if I didn't design this myself :) Now I must admit, I took some liberties with the window design here, in favour of making visually functional backgrounds. But in fact, there is actually a huge roof window, that goes over the disk section of the green beetle - which should explain why both the lounge & spa to have a roof window. And for reference, the bit of window we see in the pool, faces to the front of the ship, where the disk curves down. Now this is easy to miss, because we see the the outside of the green beetle only once :) If you want to check it out; you see it n the last part of the intro. Again, it doesn't match 100% but I did try to keep it somewhat believable :) Oh, and there are actually some windowless spaces under the spa area we will visit later. This is the engine room, which will be a bit dark & creepy...and it holds a secret as well :) All the best! -Robin

It's great artwork as always, but at the risk of being very annoying, how does the spa have a big panoramic window looking into space when it's in the centre of the ship? Possible solution: put the spa where the guest lounge is and move the guest lounge to the centre of the ship. Further thoughts: there are some parts where having an outside view would be desirable, and other bits where it's not really needed: engineering, security, teleporter, holo-resort and cargo could all be candidates for the middle section with no windows rather than the spa/guest lounge, which are more aimed at pleasure over function.

Thanks! I'm going to watch that one :)

There’s one particular scene I’m thinking of. It’s the layout of the pool. Check it out. :-)

Haha, thanks Tommy! I thought it would be fitting for Mindy :)

Robin

Thanks Cooper - I haven't seen that movie, but now I'm curious :)

Robin

Haha, thanks Toadsith :D

Robin

I like the chicken pool noodle

Tommy

Looks awesome. Reminds me of the movie “The Passengers”. Keep up the great work!!

Cooper

Love seeing these process posts, and fully agree with your decisions, the view looks much grander and really feels more real as well. Plus an indoor pool with live plants AND a view of space is my new benchmark for luxury!

Toadsith

Thanks Brommi! I thought it would be nice to hang out at the pool & have a look at the universe :)

Robin

I really like the background with the view on the moon
