October Uncensored Discussion

Hi everyone! Today’s Uncensored is all about what’s giving us comfort vs. what’s helping us escape (featuring some of your comments). Amy and Megan also break down their thoughts on Genie Make a Wish ep 1.

A couple questions:

  1. Are you watching for comfort or escape right now? Or maybe it’s neither?

  2. No spoilers on Genie make a wish, but should we keep going? Why/why not?

Comments

Also I heard your request for undersea adventures: so here’s a book rec with a romantic suspenseful undersea segment starring a river goddess and a wizard detective ~ “Stone & Sky” by Ben Aaronovitch, Rivers of London series #10.

My best friend turned me on to K dramas in May after discovering them herself in February. We're both in our mid-forties, living in deep red states, with the world burning before our eyes. Plus, our kids are angsty teens constantly annoyed by us. K dramas have been SUCH an incredible escape. For me, I'd say I go to new K dramas for escape, and rewatch ones I've already seen for comfort. (It's embarrassing how many times I rewatched CLOY and Itaewon Class.) The search for new actors and actresses and new shows—watching dumb reality shows with the actors l like, fangirling like I'm 15 again—is part of that escape, a hobby totally separate from my day to day life. Dramas like Welcome to Samdalri and Hometown Cha Cha hit the sweet spot when it comes to comfort. I'm really looking forward to My Youth after yesterday's episode. And thanks to the pod for being another great escape. I just listened to the mature heroes/cat dick episode from 2022 and laughed harder than I've ever laughed in my car. Honestly, it was an unsafe driving situation. Have a great day, y'all!
