Ok guys, I am finally returning to this after a hectic week. Somehow I am taking two Korean classes at once, what am I doing 😳 but, I have some 'free to the public' pdfs of beginner textbooks I can share with you or direct you where to download. Not everyone likes textbooks for learning but I like them for reference and guidance on how to think about grammar. I also want to say that anyone who is learning super slowly, please feel validated. It is extremely difficult to learn Korean functionally as an English speaker with knowledge only of European languages. I started with Japanese because I was one class short of minoring in Asian studies and most of my classes were pre-industrial Japanese history. Conveniently it glossed over the Japanese occupation of Korea, but I fixed that knowledge gap recently (thank you, Tomorrow, and lest any academics think that geopolitics isn't a factor in what you learn in history...another conversation 😅). However, Korean has a lot of sounds that don't exist in English and it's just very difficult and awkward to try to make them as an adult language learner. So, I just want to say if memorising all the counter nouns or days if the week has been tough, don't let that stop you from engaging with language learning in a way that is fun for you.

2024-04-26 12:01:50 +0000 UTCI have been learning on the public library’s Mango Language series. It’s free, you download it from the library’s site. You can also look for the workbooks that go with it. My library only had Japanese but you can find Korean on Amazon. This is in the US but it is an international program so it may be available elsewhere. I’m teaching/ learning from a program I got for my grandson called Habbi as well.
