Going Rogue

Summer is coming ish! This means as hosts we need to be proactive in planning fun content despite school holidays, vacation, etc.

An idea we’ve landed on is a short “Going Rogue” concept where each host will lead one main weekly podcast alone in July.

While we each have some fun ideas, you all usually have better ones! So what would you like to see? You can pick a specific concept for a specific host or something more general!

Let us know. We are definitely listening.

Ok, finally came up with one for Megan: could you do a pod on all bloody/violent/killer/zombie/monster/horror kdramas? I get the feeling that you're the one who's most into that. Give us your Top 5 of horrordramas. Which scenes in which drama freaked you out the most? What actor can do murderous psychic villain the best? Favorite bloody scene? CGI monsters that were done well, or that just looked like a cheap plastic toy? And do you prefer monster-monsters or human monsters (also see Gyeongseong Creature).

How about a discussion of the pros and cons of fan culture in Asian entertainment. Kpop, thai BL dramas, Cdramas all have a very fervent fan culture that can come with some very bad drawbacks. I honestly feel so conflicted about this aspect of an industry that I enjoy so much. There is such community in the fandom, but it can sometimes be so toxic too. This episode of the (now ended) NPR podcast Rough Translation deals with how "two warring fan communities in China brought down both a pop star and a popular fanfiction platform" and is worth a listen. https://www.npr.org/2023/04/26/1172306490/fan-favorites-dream-boy-and-the-poison-fans
