If You Wish Upon Me SPOILER THREAD
Added 2022-10-13 23:40:39 +0000 UTCHey everyone, this is Megan! Okay, so I FINALLY finished this drama after my Viki account got hacked lol. Luckily, Viki got it back to me within a week, so thanks Viki! Anyway, I finished and *no spoilers* but while a few episodes at the end took a dark turn, the end had me smiling.
So who watched it? What do you think? What would you like to hear us talk about on the pod about this drama? Why is Ji Chang Wook a god among men? SOUND OFF!

It wasn’t Suspicious Partner, but I think I loved it.

2022-10-14 20:37:17 +0000 UTCI loved the first half of this drama A LOT, but then it started going all over the place and I feel it lost its central thread. I stayed with it because I loved all the actors and characters. It landed in a great spot in the last episode. But for me...I wanted to like this one more than I actually liked it.

2022-10-14 14:20:30 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed this overall. For me, the wonderful characters and performances compensated for the iffy (and sometimes corny) plotting. For someone like me who is all-in for emotionally wounded heroes, Gyeorye is catnip. It’s perhaps implausible that someone with such a horrific past would be so cuddly (it did not take Team Genie very long to break through his shell, did it?) but did I care? Absolutely not. Much credit to JCW, who is aces at conveying emotions and character motivation. I found Gyeorye a beguiling balance of grumpiness and fundamental sweetness, and I believed in his transformation. Nurse Yeonjoo was also a terrific character: Cool-headed, warm-hearted, direct, and with an obvious sense of teasing humor that she and Gyeorye shared. He gravitated to her confidence and optimism; she to his goodness and that transformative smile. I haven’t seen any of Sooyoung’s other dramas; she’s a delight. I do wish there had been more focus on the romance of our adorable lead couple, but I get that the show was prioritizing the general feel-goodness and championing *all kinds of love* not just romantic.

2022-10-14 14:12:14 +0000 UTCI agree with just about everything others have said, but here's my one nitpick. Why was a cancer patient sleeping in an ambulance? All those people who cared so much about him didn't do anything about that? And then JCW is sleeping there at the end? Come on.

2022-10-14 13:38:04 +0000 UTCI LOVED this drama ! I think it's Ji Chang Wook's best part since Healer and he had really good chemistry with Soo Young, another favourite of mine. And Sung Dong Il was amazing, as always. At first I was really annoyed with the second female lead and her toxic character but once you get her background story I couldn't help feeling some sympathy for her. I didn't particularly enjoy the whole father subplot and would've preferred if more time had been spent with Team Genie and the granting of last wishes though. The dementia story also touched me a lot (one of my best friend's father is going through the same). All in all I was expecting the show to be more depressing but in the end it became my comfort drama of the last weeks (although I still cried in almost every episode).

2022-10-14 12:42:45 +0000 UTCI agree with all the comments. Would have liked to see the secondary couple on down the road.I loved the final episode, although tears fell. I hadn't watched Suspicious Partner so I went straight into it post this drama.

2022-10-14 07:05:03 +0000 UTCCan we talk about how endearing the Genie supervisor was. The best ahjussi to everyone! He seemed to know what people needed and he was able to provide the right support. No wonder JCW's character grew to love him so fiercely. His ending was bittersweet.

2022-10-14 07:04:34 +0000 UTCThis series really ebbed and flowed for me... there were episodes that I loved and others I could have frankly done without. Some of my favs were more toward the beginning, when JCW's character was just beginning to be more vulnerable to other people and start making some change to his life. Loved the episode where they did the musical... and the one with the veteran in particular. And the last episode for sure!

2022-10-14 06:36:59 +0000 UTCI love vulnerable Ji Chang Wook and flirty Soo Young and ambiguous but ultimately super sweet Sung Dong il. I prefer the episodic storytelling, like they used here, when a show features a lot of death (as in Tomorrow and Move to Heaven). But to be honest, the show wasn’t overly depressing – most of the deaths came with some sweetness or relief. There was also a lot of humor - like reading 50 Shades and the tea kettle date. The mobster story had plot holes and unnecessary details (did we really need the sex trafficking?) and then spiraled out of control towards the end. I kept shouting at the TV for somebody to please call the cops! But overall, I loved this show for the leads.
