Unburden Yourself
Added 2022-10-11 15:26:28 +0000 UTCAs much as I love Patreon there is a feature that can be annoying-it’s that members can’t make posts. I can see the wisdom in theory of not having hundreds of posts and turning the place into the Wild West. But… i know you all are sitting on a throne of feelings about all sorts of Kdrama things.
I’m wondering if we should do a more regular “unburden yourself” post where folks can get something off their chest, or start a thread to discuss a specific drama or question.
So let’s trial it and see how it feels! The comments are fair game for you to get whatever it is you need to get off your chest in Kdramalandia.

I just started watching kdramas December of 2021. So I think that makes me lame and playing catch-up too. I’m always torn about old vs new. But that means I’ll never run out and I can drop whatever I want (though I rarely do). Yay for being “behind” 😜

2022-10-14 01:31:25 +0000 UTCHere goes nothing: (1) I am late to the K-Drama game (I only discovered CLOY at the beginning of 2021), and I am desperately trying to catch up. I'm watching a lot of old ones, but I feel like I'm missing out by not watching newer ones lately. I just finished I Am Not A Robot, and I am now watching When The Camellia Blooms. Does this make me lame? (2) Speaking of WTCB, HOW FREAKING ADORABLE is Kang Ha Neul in this role? The first role I saw him in was as Wang Wook in MLSHR, and this is sooooo vastly different and much more lovable. What a goober! If I could meet someone half as supportive... (3) Where can one watch In The Soop Friendcation? (4) I will be so sad when Young Actors' Retreat is over. It has been an absolute joy to watch. (4)(a) Am I the only one who is entertained by PSJ's obvious hangovers and JCW's slight cluelessness? (5) For those of you who live outside the US, which VPN provider do you use? Mine kinda sucks. I ask because Netflix in Germany hasn't released a few new Dramas yet. (I think Little Women just started this week; it seems as if the US is way ahead.) (6) I am so grateful for this community. Thank you to Megan, Lia, and Amy for starting this amazing pod and this Patreon. Seriously, I am so glad to have a place to enjoy my K Drama addiction with others.

2022-10-13 20:34:10 +0000 UTCGuys! I'm so glad that you've given us this chance to unburden. You have no idea how many times I've wanted to post questions and comments just to see if anyone else agrees.

2022-10-13 20:31:16 +0000 UTCI (Amy) am here for this trope basically because I love it when the hero or heroine blows gently on the wound after cleaning it but before dressing it. I will never get tired of this. LOL.

2022-10-13 17:38:37 +0000 UTCI agree all of it is so over the top, but Korea has an incredible healthcare system that's affordable and accessible for anyone, citizens or not. My mom who is a US citizen has waited to get certain medical treatments (not life or death) in Korea because it was better and wouldn't be as costly as it is here. There are still out of pocket costs, but not much compared to the states. All my friends and family members go get their eyes checked and stock up on glasses because they maybe pay less than $50 for the whole package in Korea. 😂

2022-10-12 12:37:04 +0000 UTCRandom trope topic.... does anyone else think deeply about the whole healthcare portrayal in kdramas? No joke, in every drama where someone gets so much as a paper cut you better believe they are gonna make a scene of dressing that tiny wound! And like going to the hospital for a fever? Is it just over the top because it's drama or am I very jaded by the US healthcare system (I speculate both!)?

2022-10-12 03:55:05 +0000 UTCI loved Little Women and I’m frustrated by the lack of media coverage analyzing and celebrating this show. I’ve been searching for news reports and reviews over the past few weeks but found very little in mainstream western media. I know Squid Game was ground-breaking in many ways and maybe it deserved all the media attention it received, but in my opinion, LW was written and directed better, and the performances were stellar. The feminist in me (which is a big part of who I am) feels like the show was overlooked because it’s by and about women. Upthread Becky commented on the use of the name Little Women – I agree with her comment but what I want is an interview with the writer and director discussing that decision and so many other choices that I think were intentional (the color palette, the use of symmetry, the overhead shots, the ending). Sorry – I know I’m ranting, but now that the show has ended I feel like the window of opportunity for media attention has closed and I’ll never get my answers. More importantly, without the media attention, a lot of folks outside the kdrama community (and even many in it) will never see the show. Thank you for this opportunity to unburden myself – I do feel a little better now. 😥

2022-10-12 03:50:08 +0000 UTCYes, but there was prison, and a fishing boat, and revenge and... nevermind, if they wanted us to believe that they shouldn't have cast Park Seo Jun.

2022-10-12 01:45:42 +0000 UTCUnburdening myself of some feelings for Itaewon Class.... I'm on the last episode...quasi spoilers ahead: first, I did not think this drama would be making me serve up a bunch of tears, but Jesus H I've cried more during this series than I have in hardly any other drama. Especially during the scene toward the end of the cooking competition with Hyun Yi, and when Saeroyi wakes up from being unconscious and "seeing his father." And in WTF-ery - the writers trying to get us to believe that Saeroyi is somehow this hot ass bar owner being like a monk who has "never been kissed" by the time he's in his mid 30s or whatever???... single most baffling thing about this whole series. There. Unburdened!

2022-10-11 22:29:58 +0000 UTCWould you use a discord channel if we had one like Madge suggested?

2022-10-11 21:47:47 +0000 UTCThis is a pod community thought rather than a Kdrama yawp, but I would love to see episode-specific posts here so that we might talk about what y'all talk about together. If this seems like a ploy for me to revisit the topic of the Very Tall, Very Empathetic, and Incredibly-Respectful-of-Boundaries Green Light Captain Park Jungjoon (the first character I thought of when I saw last week's topic), that's because it is.

2022-10-11 21:40:50 +0000 UTCThat’s a solid idea. Depending on our capacity it’s something for us to strongly considering over next few months. Thanks for planting the seed :)

2022-10-11 16:51:46 +0000 UTCI just want to rant about how many flipping dramas keep coming up! There are sooo many, I’ll never get through them all. And these are just the new ones. I just started Do you like Brahms. Like I have time to watch older ones too!!!😭
