Our Blues: Spoiler Thread
Added 2022-06-14 11:02:43 +0000 UTCI finished Our Blues and my face is still covered in tears. After My Mister left me dry-eyed, I wasn’t sure if I’d become an emotional robot but this drama had me by the throat. If anyone wants to discuss…proceed.
This show was a sneak attack. I almost DNF’d in the first three episodes a few times. I am so glad I stayed the course and watched all the characters unfold. Gah. My heart is full. Jeju forever. -Lia

I really loved Dong-Seok by the end but it took me a long time to understand his character. Kim Woo Bin? My god. What a soft gentle giant. I loved him. Really I felt like by Episode 4 I was willing to give drama a chance and I’m so glad I did because from there it just surprised and touched me

I kept watching because of the Jeju setting. I'd love to be able to go to our Farmer's Market to buy fresh octopus. The storylines do get better--episode 17's 100 moons will make all the invested time worthwhile. ✨💑

2022-06-15 00:45:44 +0000 UTCThere’s so much to say and feel about this drama. Admittedly, I didn’t love it at first because the initial storyline didn’t engage me. Also, I was puzzled at first by the structure of the episodes, not telling a linear story but instead focusing on a couple of characters within the framework of the community being a huge family. Once I figured that out and the micro stories moved on, I was hooked. Why did I start watching it? For the long list of excellent actors, but I stayed for the stories. For a slice of life type of drama In a small, tight-knit community, there was a heck of a lot going on and so much emotion at every turn. Quite different from My Liberation Notes, and I suspect the 2 dramas don’t appeal equally to everyone. I watched both to the end and prefer Our Blues more, but that’s just me. I loved the storyline about the high school kids and, by extension, their fathers. And I loved the storyline about Captain Park and Young-ok and then her sibling. (More Kim Woo Bin, please!). I didn’t love the storyline about Dong-seok and Seon-ah—I just had trouble understanding them getting together. Lee Byung-hun was amazing as Dong-seok (though he will always be Eugene Choi to me), but I disliked him thoroughly, even at the end. Every single actor was incredible and should get some sort of award, except that there probably aren’t enough to go around, from the 2 oldest women down to Choon-hee’s grandchild, who was magical and adorable. The scene after the storm with the 100 moons just about did me in. I even liked the ending, with a reunion of sorts. That was useful because over the 20 episodes, not every character was front and center. The finale lifted the mood, following 2 difficult episodes, and was a reminder of the strong community in the town.

2022-06-14 17:46:15 +0000 UTCI have watched the first 2.5 episodes and then quit. It just wasn’t doing it for me. I’m curious to know what changed for you that made the remaining episodes so engrossing?

2022-06-14 16:24:34 +0000 UTCSo, I did enjoy the different story threads, and I thought there were some really good moments here and there. All the actors were believable. But I did not get the same feels as I did from Reply 1988, When the Camellia Blooms and Our Beloved Summer, for example. Maybe because I was so invested in My Liberation Notes and Mr Gu, Our Blues seemed a bit flat to me in comparison. MLN was a super slow burn for sure, but I still can't get over Mr Gu and Yeom Mi Jeong. I have already rewatched quite a bit. MLN stands out to me much more than OB.
