Friday Check In

Hi Ya’ll,

It’s been a long and sad week…and those of us who live in America have had too many of these. I kept it pretty quiet because I wasn’t in a very lighthearted mood. I’m still not but we also need to remember to take our happiness where we can, and self-care is vital to sustain sanity. So who is watching what this weekend?

All I can say is thank Zeus for a new KinnPorsche episode tomorrow.

It’s the best!!

Lorna

I know I’m probably in the minority about that one, I think it was the writing not necessarily the acting. I like both the leads individually and I really liked the music as well!

Kate

Oh, I absolutely loved Mood of the Day. Yoo Yeon-seok was adorable, IMO, and the OST delightful.

I’m late to this haha but I finished Tomorrow on Friday (loved it) and spent the rest of the weekend with Cherry Blossoms after Winter and now I’m watching Goho’s Starry Night. I watched a movie too: Mood of the Day but I was lukewarm about it.

Kate

MLN is worth the watch, it’s intense but there are funny moments. I am sad it’s ending. I still have the last episode, which drops today.

Daisy

Finished Tomorrow and it hit just right. Not really in the mood for anything light like Love All Pay or anything dark like My Name. Maybe this is the time I finish Prison Playbook...or start My Liberation Notes?

Two of the many reasons I became obsessed with kdramas was that needing to read subtitles kept me from doomscrolling through my phone and the shows rarely made me feel anxious – they had some drama and conflict but they didn’t have the macho violence of western shows. Kdramas continue to be my refuge. ❤️ Thanks to Melanie’s recommendation upthread for 30 but 17, I have been happily binging on this show for the past 24 hours. I didn’t look up any info before starting it, like when it was made or who was in it, and I had missed the comments above about Ahn Hyo-Seop; by episode 4 I was wracking my brain trying to place the actor who plays the nephew and I thought to myself, “This guy is so charming and adorable – he’s gonna go on to do great things!” And he did! 😁

I'm so happy you're starting Reply 88. The best. I've rewatched it, and will definitely be rewatching again bc it's so good! And heartwarming.

I too, have been so saddened by the tragedy in Texas. I mostly grew up in Canada. There have been a few mass shootings in our country over the decades, but few and far between, fortunately. I wish there was some way that Americans could get past the polarization of the debate to make progress on meaningful gun reform. (And I hope I did not offend anyone with that comment). This week has been rather challenging at my abode. Work has been very stressful with lots on the go and our transition to hybrid working, which has some people scared (and in general, many just don’t ever want to work in an office again). My husband and I were supposed to see the musical Hamilton on Thursday after a two-year delay, but 30 minutes before we were due to leave, he suddenly became violently ill. Needless to say, we didn’t go. 😢 the poor guy is still sick. He tested negative for Covid, but we suspect he has a norovirus. Since it can be highly infectious, we are keeping our distance and I’m focused on looking after him. So thank goodness for some Korean drama goodness. I continue to enjoy Sh**ting Stars, although we are now in the angsty part. I just loved the earlier episodes so I keep rewatching those. And i also started Again My Life - which I think is my first drama with Lee Joon-gi. So far so good! I have MLN on my to-watch list but I may also need to go back and finish Tomorrow and The Crowned Clown. Or maybe not. Happy weekend!

Beauty Inside seems like it has a fun premise. Did you like it overall?

Alice

I will really miss MLN. It has been so so good. I like all the characters. Lee Min-ki played such a different character than I’m used to seeing. He was similar in Beauty inside and BTIMFL.

Daisy

Not topical to the dramas, but I'm American and lived in Reading, UK for two years and there was one shooting while I was there. It made national news. Now I live somewhere very different and I truly miss the UK attitude towards firearms. Serious devices that can cause serious harm. I am mystified by this whole situation we have now as well, and I wish some focus were on evidence based solutions. We could achieve more safety that way, and cultural precedence could still be upheld. It is such a difficult conversation here, with some bad faith actors too. I'm extremely sad for this unnecessary thing to be persisting.

This has been a tough, distracting, woeful week. Watching and focusing on anything has been harder, perhaps surprisingly so. That said, I finished Falling for Innocence, which I watched for Jung Kyung-ho, and also Sweet Stranger and Me, for Lee Soo-hyuk. This week and weekend are the conclusions of several shows (Tomorrow, Liberation Notes) that I’ve been watching as they aired, which leaves a bit of an odd feeling. I will FINALLY start Reply 1988 this week—it seems like a very good time to start something that is pretty universally loved.

I’ve been watching events from across the pond with great sadness but also as Brits huge befuddlement at your gun laws 😞😞. It’s definitely been a week for comfort watching. I’m still enjoying From Now on, Showtime, currently airing. started Happiness which I am enjoyed hugely and great seeing PHS back on our screens and kick ass FL however it’s a bit scary/jumpy for me when I’m watching alone at night so I also started So You Like Brahms, which I am enjoying a lot so far and shaping up to be a double love triangle-fest and with Park Eun Bin who I loved in Kings Affection.

Sarah @afternoonaasks

I've started Healer !! I have to get through it pretty fast 'cause netflix is removing it at the end of next week in my region ☹️

What would I do without KinnPorsche? Don’t even want to know.
