hahahahaha

Becky

Have you watched Must You Go? It’s got time travel, Joseon and modern day, music, and it’s short.

Claudia Copeland

I can see problematic elements of historical period as a female/femme basically everywhere—as well as dentistry and lack of vaccines etc. But that’s more real life. For imagination life, I love a Joseon gat with my whole heart. Get me the time travel machine! -Lia

Megan Erickson

I’m just not big on the hats with the beads 😂

Melanie

Life for a woman, ANY woman, was awful, as Elizabeth Helsby describes. Royals and other high-placed women apparently had no choices. And poor people must have struggled every day to survive. Caste system! Sickness! Early death! Slavery! Wars! No education! Dreadful food! Sleeping on the floor! Awful shoes!

Claudia Copeland

💯 - also, no indoor plumbing will always be a hard pass for me. 😂

Grace

I’ll stick to Joseon being a fantasy place for me. I mean, they didn’t even have Ramyeon back then 🙉

Sarah @afternoonaasks

Joseon if I'm wealthy. Court life maybe or wealthy business family or something, but not the queen.

Becky

I feel like we'd all get used to the breath/body order thing though, don't you think?

Becky

Other than pretty clothes, I don't think being female in the Joseon Era looks much fun. Misogyny, death via childbirth and (apparently) everything else, lack of agency, etc. And from what I've seen in the 100% historically accurate Saegoks (ha)...it was almost worse being royal than just average. I'd much rather be a poor but cute single modern gal with a lovely rooftop apartment, full closet, and the best cosmetics and smartphone my lousy salary can't buy 😀.

Elizabeth

Really wanted to click “Joseon period,” except for two words: 1) antibiotics (and) 2) toothpaste. So present day it is.

Madge Doty

Joseon but can I pick to be a Queen! Live that royal life? 😆😆
