If you're not familiar with the AfterNoonas, we are Amy, Lia, and Megan. Amy loves epic romances and Lee Minho, Lia loves thought-provoking slice-of-life dramas, and Megan's kryptonite is a great action drama (with kissing).

A few houskeeping notes: Patreon has a handy app, so you can download that if you'd like to access our content easily. You can also select what kind of emails you want Patreon to send you about our content in your profile settings. If you have any questions, let us know!

So to kick things off, sound off in the comments by introducing yourself and telling us either your favorite Kdrama or what kind of Kdramas you like the most. Thanks for being here!

Welcome, Itza! Glad you already found the chat.

Hi! I'm Deb, and I'm a true noona for many of you, I'm sure. I just turned 50 last week! I’m from the northern edge of the Bay Area in NCal. I’ve been watching kdramas for more than a decade and listening to Kpop for almost as long. I was around when Dramafever died… I discovered this podcast when I had to take a drive to LA, and I've been hooked ever since. I dabble in writing on Wattpad (as DCVBookfan) and love seeing these dramas from the writer's perspective. It's like a master class but more fun! I have very eclectic taste. I like Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Taiwanese dramas. I started with Coffee Prince and watched Goblin while it was airing. However, I'm not sure if I have a favorite. One that I rewatch more than others, in parts, is Hidden Love, a Cdrama on Netflix. I cannot say why it hit the way it did. Nothing in the description sounded appealing, but I liked the actors, and it is now one of the few Cdramas I’ve actually finished. Now I'm into Chinese vertical dramas, true escapism! (I've tons of lists on YouTube under Iztamom, if you're interested). I always prefer an HEA! My favorite kpop band is still BTS, but I also love the Rose, Stray Kids, MonstaX and get melty over solo Taemin (SHINee) and Jackson Wang (Got7). I play Kpop before and after every monthly department meeting, so I can always use recs! I'm a failure at social media; I turned it all off during the pandemic. I work in healthcare, and I needed to find a way to block out the noise to prevent burnout. But I'm trying to connect with communities on Discord and here a bit more. Omg, this is so long! Sorry 💔. Thanks for making it this far!

Welcome, Trudy!

Palms

Hi everyone, I’m Trudy from Norfolk in the east of England. I started watching k-dramas a couple of years ago when, as it seems for so many people, the news was so grim. Now it is my perfect escapism. I find that, as I have to read the subtitles as well as watch the pictures, my mind drifts less and I can’t fiddle with my phone or try to multitask. Previously I have always watched British & American stuff but having a different culture to try to understand is also refreshing, particularly when the political situations in these countries can be difficult. I haven’t shared my K-drama obsession with many friends and colleagues (I think they’ll think it’s a little odd) and my husband and kids are long-suffering but uninterested, so after watching a drama I haven’t had anyone to talk to about it. I found the podcast earlier this year and now I’ve taken the plunge, downloaded Patreon and am excited to have found this community of people who enjoy the same stuff as me. When it comes to favourite dramas, I’m pretty easy to please. I usually like to intersperse fluffy romances with something a bit more grown-up but basically anything that makes me smile or has a good story works for me.

Welcome, Shannon! I could not love more that it was your elderly father who introduced you to Kdrama - and Rookie Historian at that! (You really should take his advice and watch it)

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello Noonas and Delights! Kdramas have been my happy place since 2022 - but even more so after the 2024 election and my son's health journey (I will say here: Please everyone volunteer to be an organ donor - that selfless act of generosity is indescribably beautiful and meaningful). Three writers talking about kdramas, tropes, story structure, motivations, conflicts, ahh!; I fell in love and have been gobbling up every pod that drops! My Dad, a seventy year-old sweetheart, brought Kdramas into my life in 2022 by insisting I watch Rookie Historian (which I haven't yet). Instead I took to the internet to find the "best one" to watch - found What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, and fell into the world of Asian tv. Goblin came next and then While You Were Sleeping. Fantastic! Amazing, I was hooked! My favorites are (my MDL 10/10): Lovely Runner While you Were Sleeping Business Proposal Reply 1988 Happiness Healer Love to Hate You The Auditors Thirty but Seventeen Hospital Playlist Happy to be a part of the community here - my best to you all!!

Hello ! I am back with my #introduction... I am Yarrow, I’m GenX and live in the coastal redwood forest of Northern California. The first Korean show I watched was Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast, back when it was first shown in US. It was my mom who recommended it, she’s is our BTS Army family member-at 85 years old.. :) Kdramas became safe space to land after the trauma of last November’s election disaster. For the past ten years I have been dealing with several neurologic conditions, including vision issues. For most of this time I couldn’t watch video/tv, because I would get dizzy and nauseous. My nervous system was affected to the degree that watching narrative tv/movies/music videos etc just wasn’t something I could do. I am a bit more stable these days and I discovered I can watch Kdramas- especially romances and slice of life with slow pacing. Reading the subtitles seems to help my brain not get overstimulated by the moving visuals. I have to fast forward or cover my eyes if there’s intense quick scenes or flashing graphics.. night club and press conference scenes are the worst… ugh. I am making up for lost time and Kdramas are a new joy, a gift to treasure… and wow a gift that seems to be endless in supply. Also I am a chef and I’ve been making kimchi for years but since watching Kdramas been cooking/learning more Korean foods. My family is very happy about this. My favorites are: Mr Queen Hometown Cha Cha Cha Chicago Typewriter Chocolate My Liberation Notes Crash Course in Romance Love to Hate You Her Private Life See You in my 19th Life My answer to the prompt: What is your favorite romantic line? My favorite romantic line is in Chocolate. She’s loved him for years but he hasn’t admitted to himself or her he loves her back yet. They are both exhausted and he finds her failing asleep on a bench at the beach. Her head falls on him and he holds her as she sleeps.. (yes this such an over used trope… ) She wakes up started, he tries to calm her but she’s worried asking if she drooled… He says: “I was trying to say it’s okay even if you snore or drool.” As far as a pre love confession I love this one because it’s about acceptance and acknowledging his heart has opened to her and finally realizing their deep connection. :)

Yarrow Rubin

Welcome Yarrow! There used to be a weekly post about the pod in the Patreon, but we haven't had that for a while now. I guess because people will mostly react on Instagram to a specific podcast episode. But sometimes someone will start a chat thread here about the latest podcast episode.

Carolien

Hi new friends- I am quite late to this great party… Kdramas became safe space to land after the trauma of lthe November election disaster. I’ll write a proper self intro soon. I have a few Q’s about this nook of community: Are there posts, and conversations on each podcast episode? I have Q’’s and comments for Afternoona Asks episodes, especially the food episodes.. is there place for that? Is there a list of favorite resource links? 💞

Welcome! So great to meet you!

It’s lovely to meet you Tania. Welcome x

Hello, I'm Lisa from Oklahoma, USA. I work in Long-Term Care but am a former English and Theatre/Drama teacher as well. I have been a fan of the pod for a 2 or 3 years now, for about the same length I have been watching Kdramas. I searched it out because I thought I didn't know anyone else interested in them. My first K Drama was Business Proposal. Current favorite K dramas; CLOY, Something In the Rain, Fight for My Way, The King's Affection, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, & Healer. There are so many good ones though and this list changes all the time! Also, I am BTS 💜ARMY through and through but also love Stray Kids, BabyMonster, and other Kpop artists. Looking forward to meeting everyone!😎

LisaDC-ARMY💜

Hey everyone! I’m Tania. I’ve been into K-dramas and K-pop since 2020. I’ve watched so many dramas and never get tired of them—I seriously love them. If I had to pick a fave, it’s definitely Hospital Playlist. I’ve rewatched it a bunch of times—it’s my comfort show.I’m a proud BTS ARMY, but I also enjoy checking out other K-pop groups too. I’ve been listening to Afternoona Delight for over a year now and I’m obsessed with the podcast. I finally decided to join as a patron to try something new and connect with people who are into the same stuff. I’m usually pretty introverted and not one to put myself out there, but I wanted to give this a shot. Nice to meet you all.

Tania Coppi

Hi Lori! There are a few of us in the DC area who meet up in person every so often. Welcome! You can DM me if you'd like more info.

Noellagm

Hello everyone - relatively new to this group and recently started posting, so thought I would introduce myself. I'm a 50-something mom of 2 young adults, lawyer in solo practice living in the Washington, DC area (looking forward to the opportunity to meet some of the DC-based patrons IRL at some point). I'm fairly new to kdramas - started with Extraordinary Attorney Woo about 2 years ago, then of course the Netflix algorithm fed me CLOY, and the rest is history! My top 3 dramas at this point are CLOY, Healer and The Red Sleeve. I'm grateful to have found this group of kind, insightful, supportive people who share my obsession with Asian dramas :)

Lori

Hi and welcome, Anna!

Welcome Cynthia!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi, I'm Cynthia, (aka Palms) from Florida in the United States. It is hard to pick just one favorite Kdrama, but my top 3 are Reply 1988, My Mister, and Moving. Also, Vincenzo has a special place in my heart because my youngest daughter (16 at the time) watched it with me (a rewatch for me) and loved it.

Welcome Avery!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi!! I'm Avery, from the States, currently living in East Asia. I've been ARMY since I Need U era, and I started watching k-dramas thanks to Afternoona Delight showing up as a result when I was trying to find info on attending Permission to Dance - Las Vegas (who knows what glitch in the system brought that about? I don't argue with fate.) My fave dramas are It's Okay and Flower of Evil. I am determined to hunt down every Yoo Teo role he's been in (currently looking for a Russian movie where he played a Soviet rock star). And while I'm definitely hooked on BL, I desperately need recs for GL series :) Thanks in advance!

Welcome Becca!

Charlotte

Hi Folks! My name is Becca and I just discovered the podcast a few weeks ago and have been binging to catch up. I'm also a new baby K-Drama watcher (started in the fall with My Demon and quickly fell down the rabbit hole with It's Okay, CLOY, Lovely Runner, & Goblin). Excited to be part of this community!

Becca

Welcome, Linda! It seems like there are a fair number of Aussies in the Patreon so you're in good company.

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi everyone. I’m Linda from Sydney, a long time listener and huge fan of the podcast. Seeing BTS on SNL changed my life (absolutely for the better!) and after watching V in Hwarang I quickly became obsessed with Kdramas. I’ve enjoyed so many dramas over the last 5 years, mostly based on your recommendations. This month I’m finally watching Goblin (and loving Lee Dong Wook, who was also in my all-time favourite Tale of the Nine Tailed). I don’t know anyone who shares my kdrama obsession, so your weekly podcast has been my lifeline. I joined Patreon as I figured 2025 is the year to find my tribe. I look forward to being part of the community. .

MissMac71

What a great story! Welcome! Where in NM do you live? I and my parents have lived there off and on (abq, sf, Moriarty, Navajo Rez) though I'm in Utah now.

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello everyone, my name is Christina andcyour podcast was recommended by a member, Leea Bristow, and I was instantly hooked. Leea, myself and Janet Smith, don't know if she is a member yet, met in a hotel at the breakfast bar in San Antonio, TX, the day after the concert of Kim Woosungs, leadsinger of TheRose. All three of us Black Roses clicked right away and hopefully we will be meeting again soon. I am a KDrama/CDrama fanatic and love historical dramas. Netflix recommended 100 days my prince and I was hooked. My favorite actors are Lee Min-ho, Song Joongi and Yang yang. I live in the rural area of New Mexico but originally I am from Germany. I am probably one of the older ladies here. I am 54 years young. Love to connect with other members and Black Roses 🌹.

Welcome, Laura! I don't have any IRL Kdrama friends either. Jump into to the community chat or Friday Watch thread!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi all -- I'm Laura. I found this great podcast after becoming enthralled with KDramas when I watched Extraordinary Attorney Woo and then Hometown Cha Cha Cha. Now I've watch about 6 or 7 series... enough to recognize the tropes and begin to appreciate all those incredible character actors (shout out to Kim Sun-Young and Lee Byong-Run). My favorites so far have had some more mature male leads -- like Love to Hate you. I have also enjoyed adding Kpop to the normal stuff I listen to while running/working out or clearing up the house. All in all -- it's been a great new addiction and added a lot of sprite to my life. Happy to join Patreon so that I have a place to ask questions and dish a bit ... I don't know anyone in real life who is on this train too -- so thrilled to have some new community. <3

Welcome, Shannon! We all love hot takes here so share them in the chat or watch day threads!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi! My name is Shannon. I'm a Children's Librarian in Rhode Island, USA. I've been watching K-dramas since 2018. I started with Boys Over Flowers and watched dramas sporadically until 2023 when I started binging them one after the other! Back in 2018/2019 I was a Teen Librarian and tried to start a K-drama club at the library, but only one girl came :( We did get to watch a bit of Descendants of the Sun though! I've been toying with the idea of starting my own podcast to talk about K-dramas so I discovered the Noonas in my research. I became a fan, and now I'm questioning whether the world really needs my hot takes so I still haven't made up my mind whether to go forward with the podcast or not.

Shannon

Thanks for writing your bio! It's nice to learn more about you. It's really neat how you've gone to fan events

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello Everyone This is Jasmine (the alias that I use for all my writing work) and I am a long term resident of Singapore and of Indian origin. I joined this community in Apr 2024 and have been active in the community chats and some other posts but never properly introduced myself. So here I go and better late than never I guess: I started watching K-dramas (or any drama in any language for that matter) more consistently from Jan 2020 onwards (before that I had watched a few here and there but nothing note-worthy). Yet I wasn't being swept away by the Hallyu Wave up until I saw Healer in Sep 2020 (yes exactly 4 years back) and now I have been all over Asia in the last 21 months for various fan-events of both Ji Chang Wook and Kim Nam Gil. And have also made 2 amazing trips to Seoul in the last 9 months. So no surprises here that my fave K-actors are Ji Chang Wook, Kim Nam Gil and an amazing addition of Lee Je Hoon more recently. Amongst the K-actress I love Shin hae-sun and have soft spot for Kim go-eun, Kim tae-ri and Kim ji-won (and TBH most of the K-actresses are so good at acting work really). And I do watch a varied genre mix of K-dramas and thankfully I don't restrict myself to just my fave actor's work. I also don't prefer the romcom K-dramas as much though I do get that they are very popular and done well. Also in 2024 I experimented with watching modern C-dramas and Jodramas and so far so good and they all complement K-dramas very well - in the sense that as a viewer I am spoilt for choice at this point. I also watch dramas slowly (1 or 2 dramas max on a given month) and can't watch more than 2 dramas at a given time. So far have watched 60 plus dramas in total. And I try and stay away from currently airing dramas as much as possible as I can't wait for episodes to drop and prefer binge-watching (yes even for my bias I prefer to wait and binge-watch). And I have also written 3 guest posts in a different drama community (which is based out of Singapore) and basically enjoy writing/discussing on dramas/movies. These 4 years occasionally I do watch K-movies and Marvel/DC works but no longer have time to watch English/International movies (which were once my major entertainment space). And what started out as a simple fun watching (thanks to JCW) has now become an important part of my life. (Thankfully my spouse is understanding enough and hence I am able to mange my watching/fan-events travel reasonably so far but fingers crossed that it remains that way. Also I love solo-travel and good stories and combined together this hobby is fitting in well. (also this hobby happened at a time in my life when I most needed good positive distractions as I had just come out of many toxic relationships from my extended so-called family) P.S - As I have attended quite a few fan-events etc and also been to SK twice, please feel free to ask me anything on those experiences for your own future travel and I am happy to help in anyway. Also I have lived in the West Coast for 3 years and studied/worked in the UK and hence it amazes me how many of you from those parts of the world have taken a liking to K-dramas/C-dramas (and broader Asia in general). Thanks and here's to many more years of drama watching and discussions in this awesome Patreon community.

Welcome Jimmy!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi, I'm Jimmy from Rockville, MD (suburban Washington, DC). My Kdrama gateway drugs were CLOY and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. Because of my fascination with Son Ye Jin and Amy's fascination with Lee Min Ho, I watched Personal Taste, which was actually worth it. I love BLs, too, with Earth-Mix being my current favorite ship. I'm a big zombie fan, so naturally I have seen All of Us Are Dead and Train to Busan. Looking forward to chatting Kdramas and more with everyone!

Jimmy Harris

Welcome, Kate B!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello! I’m Kate from Philadelphia (US). I started watching K-dramas in January 2023 from a CLOY recommendation on NPR. I binged CLOY during the post-holiday haze and immediately searched out podcasts to learn more about alllll of it. My 3rd drama was Our Beloved Summer and that (along with a well-timed mention of Afternoona Army on an ep of Afternoona Delight) led me down the BTS rabbit hole. And now here I am! Looking forward to chatting dramas with you all.

Kate B

As I said in the Friday thread, I am a big Ji Chang Wook fan (Healer forever!) and am slowly working my way to all of his dramas. Like many of you, I began watching Kdramas when the pandemic hit and Netflix bugged me to watch CLOY, which led to It's Ok to Not be Ok and ...This podcast and others kept talking about Goblin. I *had* to get Viki in order to see it. My favorite bodyguard is JCW in K2.

Kathleen McCarty

(Thanks to Kaléna who suggested a web browser) My Name is Kathleen and I am from the Bay Area, CA. I've lurked on the podcast for several years and decided to join Patreon in order to chat with fellow Kdrama fans.

Welcome! I'm obsessed with Atypical Family and have an unhealthy fondness for the trauma in Rain or Shine. Nice to meet you!

...and some favorite k-dramas of mine are, Something in the Rain, The Atypical Family, and Rain or Shine. Excited to be here, finally ☺️

Welcome! Thanks for introducing yourself & join in the chats when you're comfortable

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello everyone! Lovely to meet you all. My name is Charlotte and I’m from London. I joined the Patreon a few weeks ago but I have been too shy to post anything. Sorry for lurking and not saying hello sooner.
I’m a really new fan and only discovered K Drama at the start of this year but it’s fair to say that I have fallen hard. The shows I loved as a teenager have definitely influenced my K Drama tastes. I was an X Files shipper in the 90s and I love a slow burn romance where every small gesture hints at a universe of longing. I find the pace of K Dramas absolutely delicious for this reason. The ultimate slow burn for me so far has been ‘Lost’ which I found electrifying from start to finish. I am a lifelong fan of vampire fiction - a brooding, immortal hero is basically catnip to me. So of course, ‘Goblin’ blew my mind. But I also love a completely uncyncial, hilarious rom-com. ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim’ is my comfort food and I must admit I have watched it three times (!!!) It’s a huge joy to be here. Lots of love, Charlotte x

Charlotte

Welcome! Especially happy to meet another Beyond Evil fan ;-)

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi, I'm Marta! I fell into kdramas thanks to Hometown cha cha. I fell so hard. I found the noonas talking about that show I think... and since now. So long! Part of it is easy to explain: fom the fantastic storytelling of It's okay not to be okay, to the plot and heart twisting Flower of evil. But others I just don't know how they are so fascinating, like Kingdom (zombies, come on) or Like flower's in the sand. Many of the best I wouldn't have seen them without the noonas push. My beautiful man (JBL) throw me into the BL loophole. I didn't like Healer the first time I saw it (why?), but strangely I had to rewatch it, and of course fell for it. My standards for acting have gone up and up…Let me talk about Beyond evil (thanks, thanks). So many more… Happy to be here!

Marta v

So happy to have you here!

Megan Erickson

Well, my HEALER fanfic is up to 13 manuscript pages.... not sure how long it's going to ultimately be, I need to sit with it a bit to figure out the endpoint I want to reach. Think I'll post it on AO3, which I just joined. I'll let you know when it's up. Unless Wattpad is better? I'm not familiar with them at all. Thoughts welcome!

Jody

Welcome!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi, I'm Jocelyn and I'm excited to be here! My kdrama journey has definitely been a slow burn. My first drama was Coffee Prince definitely over 10 years ago - maybe even 15 years ago? Over time, I've picked up the occasional kdrama, but didn't fall down the rabbit hole until 2020, courtesy of Because This Is My First Life! Since then, I've watched almost exclusively asian dramas. I'm always a sucker for slice of life, and it definitely shows in my top 5: Reply 1988, 25-21, Misaeng, Little Women, Prison Playbook. I've listened to you all for years and have always felt like your discussions have articulated so many of my feelings on dramas so well and have shown me so many dramas I would have never found, so thank you for making the pod. I'm excited to be a part of this community!

Jocelyn

(True confession: I am now distracted by starting on a fanfic from the POV of Ahjumma Jo Min-ja of HEALER....oops.....I kinda wonder if I'm heading toward a whole collection of ahjumma/granny fanfic short stories hahaha)

Jody

Yay welcome!

Megan Erickson

Hi folks! Ahhhh I finally joined--my first ever Patreon anywhere! I've been listening to the podcast for months, to the point where it's really the only pod I listen to. I'm from Massachusetts US. It feels like forever ago, but I discovered kdrama in 2023, and I've never looked back. I stumbled onto it after discovering jdrama THE MAKANAI (which I adored) on Netflix, so the Netflix algo offered me EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO, and I was off and running. My first kdrama passion was ALCHEMY OF SOULS, which I confess to watching 4 consecutive times so I fear I've desensitized myself to it now (note to self: do not do that again, me). Top tier dramas for me are: TKEM, CLOY, THE KING'S AFFECTION, DOOM AT YOUR SERVICE, MOVE TO HEAVEN, NAVILLERA, TOMORROW, MYSTIC POP-UP BAR, UNCANNY COUNTER, and HEALER, with a sweet little soft spot for MY HOLO LOVE which I will try not to be a bore about. Can't really pin down a top 3 right now. I'm all in for paranormal/afterlife/mystical dramas (bonkers is welcome, but I draw the line at zombies), comforting small-town stuff (I surprised myself by falling for WELCOME TO SAMDAL-RI), heart-melting romance, and touching slice-of-life. I'm also in favor of sageuks but not a steady diet of them. Fave actors include: Rowoon, Seo In-Guk, Lee Dong-Wook, Lee Jae-Wook, Ji Chang-Wook, Song Kang, Woo Do-Hwan (I mean how is that guy not AI? And also, no matter what he does, he will always be Captain Jo Yeong to me), Park Eun-Bin, Kim Go-Eun, with special fondness for Yoo In-Soo and Yoo Jun-Sang. I'm a big ahjumma booster: my two faves are Kim Mi-Kyung and Yeom Hye-Ran. I am slowly learning Korean, currently with apps but I suspect maybe a class soon. All because I wanted to understand the musicality of the things the actors were saying (not just the words but the emphases and tones/repetitions), and now, whew, Hangeuk is freaking cool and at the same time WOW is Korean difficult to learn as a native English speaker! Anyway, thanks for reading my super-long intro. I'm so excited to be here with you all! (PS I started writing a fanfic from the perspective of Head Court Lady Noh in TKEM. If I ever finish it and it doesn't make me want to die, I'll let you know.)

Jody

Welcome Anthony! This is a really fun community. I'm sure you'll love it

Sian Brennan

Hello Everyone! New to this community. My wife and I started to watch K dramas last year via Netflix. We were hooked immediately. Now, we cannot stop watching them. My wife and I usually finish off our Fridays and Saturdays by binging a few episodes of our current shows. I came across AfterNoona Delight while looking for a place to find great recommendations for K dramas and to share and gain some insight into the medium. Besides my wife, I don't have anyone to speak to about what makes these series (and movies) so endearing. As of now, I would say my top 3 (only after a year of watching) in no particular order: Crash Landing on You, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, and Queen of Tears. Currently we are watching: Marry My Husband and Lovely Runner. I cannot get enough of the time travel trope in K dramas. Hoping this community will help me to find new and entertaining dramas to watch with my wife. From the old to the new as well as the hidden gems.

Anthony A.

I’ll be in Melbourne in Dec-Jan probably

Megan Erickson

Hi everyone! I’m Kathi from Berlin, Germany. I got hooked on Kdramas during the pandemic in 2020, my first drama was CLOY. I remember swooning and crying my eyes out and not being able to think about anything else for weeks. Since then, I’ve been watching Kdramas exclusively with some Cdrams mixed in occasionally (highly recommend „meet yourself“). My top 5 are: CLOY, the King Eternal Monarch, My Mister, Alchemy of Souls and currently Lovely Runner (I know, it’s still ongoing, I hope they don’t screw up the second half, but damn it’s giving me alllll the feels). I love listening to the podcast and sharing the passion for Kdramas ❤️

Kathi

Hi Everyone, I'm Marney I am from the Gold Coast (region) in Australia. I've been a member and stalker since last December but this is the first time I've managed to find the time to log in on my computer (I cannot comment on the app for some reason). I am an equal opportunity watcher of Asian dramas and don't just stick to the K. I don't know when I started watching asian dramas in general however the first Kdrama I ever watched was Beating Again with Jung Kyung Ho and Kim So Yeon. My favourite asian dramas are varied and include (but are not limited to): Black; Good Morning Call (Season 1); Alchemy of Souls; Love Between Fairy and Devil; the Reply series; and A Korean Odyssey. A fun fact about me, I have attempted to watch CLOY twice now and am yet to get past episode 2!

Marney Dunkley

Hi I'm Ange from Melbourne, Australia. My first kdrama was Romance is a Bonus Book which my husband randomly suggested we watch in 2019. I was immediately hooked and have never looked back. We watch some together but it's mostly me watching late into the night. I can't do zombies but I'll give everything else a try. My top ten includes Twinkling Watermelon, Move to Heaven, Goblin, Tale of the Nine Tailed (yes I know it's bonkers), Hospital Playlist, Call it Love, Healer and Hotel de Luna. At some stage I watched Hwarang which told the Instagram algorithm it should load me up with BTS content and I immediately enlisted for ARMY, but it wasn't long before I was also Monbebe, Aroha, Atiny, Once, Blink and a Black Rose.

angeb0042

Hey, I'm Julie. I have only been into k-drama for a year or so. I tend to go for the fluffy rom com type shows bc I live alone and am a huge baby about scary stuff. For example, I loved Strong Woman Do Bong Soon but the serial rapist plot scared the bejeezus out of me. One thing I'd like to share is that when I started getting into k drama, I thought I was there for hot guys with problems. Instead it turns out that I tend to fangirl over the female characters. The FLs in Fight For My Way and My Love From the Star are standouts for me. I haven't seen much but I'm steadily trying to dig deeper.

Julie

Welcome, Linda! I’m in the Portland area. Always nice to see someone else in the PNW. 😊

Nicole H

Hi! I’m Linda! I just joined the Patreon because I’ve been listening to to you guys for quite a while now and I want more. I especially want more from Amy because Lee Min Ho is also my favorite. It’s time to review City Hunter, Amy! (or my other favorite after TKEM, the great doctor) And I would love to argue with you about personal taste … Just kidding! I see your point, but there are still some things in there that I really like. Especially at the end. So I guess my favorites are anything with Lee Minho, but not really. I love Mr. sunshine, and will always say that’s my favorite. I also love my Mr. But I don’t rewatch those like I do others (TKEM!) because they are gut wrenching. Right now I am really enjoying Love between Fairy and Devil because of your podcast. I go back and listen to your older podcasts, and you convinced me to watch it. I am a little over halfway through and very happy about that decision. Thanks for all the good times you bring me when I’m driving or walking and listening to your podcast! I’m in Oregon, by the way.

Linda Buie

Welcome!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi Everyone! I'm Deb from Boston, and am now 37 Kdramas in plus some BLs. I've been listening to the podcast for a while and love it so much. I know the afternoonas don't like this one, but My Mister is far and away my favorite, probably the best show I've ever seen. Then Healer, Reply 1988, It's Ok to Not be Ok, Coffee Prince, Goblin, Misaeng, and Fight for my Way (sorry, just couldn't keep it to five)! Very happy to be here!

Debra Jacobs

Welcome, AJ! Just had to say same on needing the I Feel You Linger special episode asap. Glad you’re here. 😊

Nicole H

Hi, I’m Adrienne from Virginia. I stumbled across kdramas in 2022 while scrolling through Netflix and started watching The Business Propersal and from then on began my search to find similar content. I skipped “Crash Landing On You” because I couldn’t make it past the 🌪️. Everyone in my life thought I was nuts as I tried to explain the premise of these show so when I found the Noonas I no longer felt alone and thus, they became my official guide to the landscape of Asian entertainment media. Healer has my heart, Lee Min Ho was born to play a king, and the moon tribe will forever be protected by Moon Supreme. Last year I discovered the world of BL! I’m infatuated with BL book “I Feel You Linger In The Air” and the series released last year was beautifully executed. I need them to release the special episode internationally IMMEDIATELY. Lol! The Rain, Storm, Sky and Wind fare my comfort watch, but I just finished Bad Buddy and I don’t know what to do with myself. I can watch just about anything but romance, fantasy and mystery are my go tos.

AJ

Hi! I'm Zoe from New Orleans. I've been watching kdramas for just over a year, but once I started I fell down the rabbit hole very quickly. My top five kdramas are 1. Reply 1988 2. Goblin 3. Coffee Prince 4. Twinkling Watermelon 5. Hometown Cha Cha Cha. I've discovered that I prefer watching dramas live rather than binging them, and I do enjoy saeguks. I'm mostly in it for the romance, but since I like spending time with my husband I also watch some action shows.

Zoe

Hello, all! I'm Dinah from Houston, and I've been watching K-dramas since 2016. I was working at a library, and the Boys Over Flowers manga series was always on the hold shelf... So, when I saw it on Netflix, I gave it a shot. Didn't care for that particular storyline but loved some of the K-drama conceits. And once I saw Fated to Love You (and got a serious case of second male lead syndrome over Handsome Daniel), I was totally hooked. My current favorites are Love to Hate You, Healer, Tunnel, Crash Landing & Strong Girl Bong-soon.

Dinah

As a fellow Twin Citian, I welcome you! Just going out for some Korean food for lunch . . .

Humbledaisy

I just finished listening to the episode about Rain or Shine and loved it. My top five are probably: 1) Healer - forever #1 2) Rain or Shine 3) Lost 4) My Mister 5) D.P. S1. My forever crush is Jung Hae-in - loved One Spring Night, not so much Something in the Rain. I also have a deep fondness for Rookie Historian and Run On. And the drama I am eagerly awaiting the second season is Fiery Priest. I laughed until I cried with that show. There were darker parts, but the hijinks, I love that show.

Rebecca M Davis

Hi, I’m Libby and started listening to the podcast a couple months ago. I’m located in Minneapolis and decided to go all in on Kdramas to get through the winter this year. My first Kdrama was actually back in the early days of Netflix streaming (2009-ish?), when I binged Spring Waltz while home sick with the flu. I got sucked in because it was set in Austria, and I was all in on Korean-German dialogue! I rediscovered Kdramas shortly before the pandemic, and my favorites have been CLOY, King Eternal Monarch, Call it Love, and DP.

Libby

Welcome Darcy! Great list of favourites 😍

Sian Brennan

Hey everyone, I'm Darcy! I'm based in California and got hooked on kdramas in late 2021 when Netflix convinced me to watch Hometown ChaChaCha. I think I found the pod shortly after, so, longtime listener, first time patron. My top dramas are HomCha, Start Up, Business Proposal, CLOY, Our Beloved Summer, and 25/21 (except for, well, you know). I also /lived/ for the first two seasons of Singles Inferno and merely survived the Bachelor in Paradise-ification of the most recent one. Looking forward to being part of this community!

Darcy

We just bought a small property in Minnesota with a hunting shack on it. While clearing it out, we found a stash of dvds, most of them Hong Kong dramas! None with subtitles unfortunately but not totally unwatchable.

Humbledaisy

Where in Germany are you? There are a few of us here. Tania, Susa, Fran, and I are the ones I know of. I'm in Berlin.

Kara Guminski

Hi Fellow K-Drama lovers! I'm based in Scotland; my parents are from Hong Kong. I started watching K-Drama in 2006 when my mum brought me DVDs of My Lovely Samsoon from Hong Kong; needless to say I was hooked but with no more DVDs I devoted my time to British period dramas instead. Fast forward to 2022 and I start watching CLOY. A million k-dramas and some c-dramas later and here I am. I love AfterNoona Delight and especially love the Asks spinoff with Sarah and Grace. I love a romance drama, revenge thriller, action, law drama, procedural and religious horror! There aren't many genres I don't like but I do like all my genres with a healthy dose of romance. I love drama as escapism and a shot of dopamine after a busy, tiring day. I'm looking forward to being part of this community!

Thea Coleman

Hi Sara! I'm from Houston too and some of your favorites are my favorites too. I'd love to do a Houston meet-up one of these days.

Jackie C

Hi, I am Ketki, currently based in Germany. I dove into kdramas only last year and have been totally sucked in! I loved summer strike, our blues, and just finished watching King the Land, which I loved for the music and how stylish it is! 😻 I stumbled upon this podcast when I was looking for fellow kdrama lovers to discuss all the kdrama content with and love the perspective Amy, Megan and Lia bring to the pod as romance writers! I’m looking forward to connecting with other kdrama lovers!

KGkdramawatcher2

H! I love summer strike and my liberation notes too. Have found so few people who have watched summer strike. It’s one of the finest I’ve watched!

KGkdramawatcher2

Hi everyone! I’m Marie from Germany. I started watching K-dramas during the pandemic and finally found my way to the AfterNoonas because my fellow Korean learner Susa recommended your community to me. I recently started listening to the AfterNoona Delight Podcast and was captivated by the knowledge about tropes, directors, actors and just everything regarding K-dramas. Megan, Amy and Lia inspired me - now I also want to start discussing K-dramas and not just consume them. My favorite K-drama genre is slice-of-life. I'm currently watching Welcome to Samdal-ri, My Demon and Single’s Inferno 3. It’s really difficult to choose, but some of my favorite K-dramas are Summer Strike, My Liberation Notes, My Mister and Our Beloved Summer. But I also can’t stop thinking about Move to Heaven, Tomorrow and Weak Hero Class 1. In 2023 my favorites probably were Twinkling Watermelon, The Good Bad Mother and Worst Of Evil. My Dearest is still pending on my watchlist. I’m also kind of obsessed with Seventeen. GoSe is my comfort show. I’m looking forward to be a part of your community and discuss K-dramas with you!

Marie

Hi everyone! I’m Sara from Houston. I found K-dramas when a friend recommended Attorney Woo. I watch a lot of non-English crime dramas (mostly French, along with Nordic, Italian, and some German) but I’d never watched much Asian drama. Now I’m asking myself why I didn’t find Kdramas sooner?? Some of my favorite shows: Because This is My First Life, Rain or Shine/Just Between Lovers, King the Land, Chief Kim/Good Manager, and I’m Not a Robot. Currently watching: Suspicious Partner.

Sara Rosett

Hi, fellow KL-ite! 👋🏻

Ming

Hi everyone! I’m Alma from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I started watching K-dramas in 2022, and Extraordinary Attorney Woo was my gateway drama. After tumbling down the rabbit hole, I started looking for K-Drama podcasts to listen to, and stumbled upon the Afternoonas. I’m so glad I did! My current faves are Hospital Playlist, Prison Playbook, Attorney Woo, Do You Like Brahms?, Hometown Cha3, and CLOY. I don’t have a favourite trope yet, but the white truck of doom will always elicit a belly laugh from me 😁.

Alma

Hi everyone. I’m Mariam from Illinois. I’ve been watching dramas for almost 10 yrs, but recently got into listening to podcasts such as this one. My favorite Kdramas are probably Find Me in Your Memory and He is Psychometric. I love a suspense drama that can smoothly blend in some romance with it. Excited to swap recs with others and talk all things drama related.

Mariam Elahmady

Leuk u te ontmoeten! I have close friends in Leiden and have spent a lot of time visiting there. Haven't convinced them to get into Kdramas yet though.

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hello! I'm Carolien from the Netherlands and I'm really happy that I found this podcast/Patreon. I started with Squid Game, then King Eternal Monarch, then CLOY, and there was just no going back after that. I enjoy dramas with a supernatural/fantasy element (goblin/reaper/gumiho/fairy&devil/demon), but also like a good Joseon-drama such as the King's Affection, or an office romance.

Carolien

안녕하세요! I'm Ramsey from Park City, Utah. I've been watching Kdramas for about 1.5 years and learning Korean for a year. I'm pretty conversational now and it's really fun to catch the differences in translation & different characters manners of speaking. My current favorite Kdramas are CLOY, Coffee Prince, Beyond Evil, Call it Love, and lots of the goofier shows like Gaus Electronics, Chief Kim/Good Manager, Fiery Priest, Inspector Koo. Nice to meet you all!

Ramsey (but also sometimes Lindsey)

Hi everyone, I'm Sam. I'm from California. The first drama I ever watched was Goblin. I started watching dramas again earlier this year after a 2-3 year break. A few of my favorites are My Mister, Lost and Summer Strike. Most recently I really enjoyed Doona! Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Sam

Hello, everyone! I’m Laura from Kansas City. My intro to K-dramas happened to be Squid Game, but then Netflix started recommending all these other K-dramas, and, well, here I am! I don’t have a particular favorite, but I’ve really enjoyed Business Proposal, 25/21, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, CLOY, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and am just starting Goblin.

Laura M

Welcome! There are a number of other folks from the PNW here (I’m in Portland, but you’ll find others from Seattle too). 😊

Nicole H

Hello! I am Marilyn from Seattle. I stumbled across Extraordinary Attorney Woo and was charmed by the floating whales and the ML. I don't have an absolute favorite drama, but I do love campground scenes and the matter of fact way time travel, past lives, grim reapers, eye-blink sound effects, etc. show up in the kdrama "real world."

Marilyn N

Hi Everyone! I'm Jackie from the US, Houston TX to be specific. I've been listening to Afternoona Delight for years now and just decided to join the Patreon. My gateway drama, like so many people, is CLOY and I have to keep it as my favorite. Since then I've watched 280 dramas from Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan and Thailand. My favorites should always have some type of romance and hopefully a HEA. My favorite trope is probably enemies to lovers.

Jackie C

Love your faves! Maybe we can do a meet-up sometime with the other Patreons living in Germany.

Susa

Hello everyone, I’m Nadja from Germany. My kdrama watching also started with CLOY in summer 2020. My favorite dramas are Flower of Evil, Hospital Playlist, I’m not a robot and Goblin. I found the Afternoona Podcast in 2021 and was so glad that I could listen to other people talk about my favorite shows. And finally I found my way here as well. In my real life I don’t know anyone that watches kdramas. I tried to get my best friend to watch CLOY, but she stopped at the tornado…

Nadja

I'm also in LA - how about some makju in K town some time?

Ali D

Chicagoan here. Also new to the Patreon.

Kathy K-Drama Kitchen

Great list of favorites!! Welcome!

Lorna

I'm Cheryl from LA CA. I just started my Kdrama watching career ( and it feels like a career now because it's now been combined with a love for BTS) February 2023. I got deep in and fast since my need to see the next episode is apparently more important than sleep. I found Afternoona after needing somewhere to go after my kdrama hangovers and the fact that most of the people in my life having no interest in kdramas. My favorites have been 2521; Start Up ( mostly because of Good boy and grandma); Reply 1988; Healer; Cloy and Something in the Rain. My tops are highly influenced by recency bias but these seem pretty consistent.

Cheryl Loo

I'm Jess from Central IL. I've been a listener to the pod since the start but just jumped on over here. It's my birthday present to myself! My #1 probably forever is Reply 1988 and a close second in Vincenzo. I'm also pandemic Army and have fallen into the Kpop and KIndie hole. I'm a new empty nester and close to finishing a graduate program and chaplaincy certification process that has felt never ending. K Drama and BTS have been my go-tos for stress relief and encouragment.

Jessica Dager

Annmarie from Ireland here. My god tier K-Dramas are Legend of the Blue Sea, Thirty but Seventeen, Coffee Prince, My Mister and Reply 1988. I've had a lot of fun bingeing Afternoona Delight and Afternoona Army episodes since discovering the podcasts in June. It's been so delightful fangirling along with you guys vicariously through the podcast so I thought it was about time I joined the Patreon! I also credit the Afternoona Army podcast with restarting my dormant BTS curiosity which is now at insanity levels (it happened so quickly, I still have whiplash). SO THANKS GUYS. LOL.

Annmarie

Hi Sandrine! Whereabouts in Canada? I also live in Canada! And I LOVE Rain or Shine, it gave me the biggest drama hangover and was my first Lee Jun Ho drama so I will always love it.

Nicole W

Hi, my name is Sandrine and I live in Canada! My favourite K-drama is Rain or Shine tied with the Glory (very different genres I know :)). Happy to join in the fun!

Sandrine B.

Hi I just joined after listening to a few podcasts. I enjoyed listening to the review discussion for”The King Eternal Monarch” “Alchemy of Souls 1 & 2”. The endings in my opinion for these series were incomplete and disappointing. Also the English Audio for AOS It sounded to me that a different actor voice was used for Jang Uk in Part 2. Does anyone feel the same ? Listening to the podcast discussion on these kdrama series provided good feedback and finding others who felt the same about the endings. There was mention of writing an alternate ending for the King series. Will there be notification when the alternate ending will be available ?

Marie Marr

Hello everyone! I’m finally joining in on the fun :) My name is Leah and my favorite drama is Because This Is My First Life. Looking forward to hopefully having a deep dive on it soon!

Leah Marie

Try Lighter & Princess too! Arthur Chen is Dylan Wang x 2!

Lorna

Love cdramas and Dylan Wang. I found Meteor Garden sufficiently bonkers but much less problematic (tho still has its moments) than Boys Over Flowers.

Roni

Hi everyone! I'm finally committing to the Patreon after listening to lots of Afternoona Delight and I'm excited to be here. Like a lot of people, I got into Kdramas via CLOY -- I'd watched most of Boys Over Flowers back in the day but really just Could Not with the toxicity of that main relationship so unfortunately didn't watch any Kdramas for a long time after that. Silly me. I'm currently watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo (very late ha) and Manner of Death (Thai BL, yeah I'm down that rabbithole). I just finished Love Between Fairy and Devil and am finding that my drama hangover from that one is only growing with time?? What the heck. I lived in China in my teens and am currently trying to reclaim my never-very-fluent Mandarin from those days, so I'm really hoping to find more fun cdramas soon (watching Dylan Wang glower in fabulous clothing totally counts as studying, right?).

Stephanie

Hi all, Happy to be here because I love kdramas (and cdramas) but only have one friend who watches and she won’t let me text her all day about it. I started kdramas in 2017. I lived in China and used a vpn so my Netflix recommendations were bonkers. On a whim I clicked on Hello, My Twenties one day and then proceeded to watch it in it’s entirety over the next few days….on the floor in front of the tv shushing my roommate. Goblin is my top because I love modern fantasy. Also love loved The Untamed. Roni

Roni

Hello Everyone! Very excited to be part of this community. I started my k-drama journey with Winter Sonata in the early 2000s when I was living in Singapore. But stopped when I came back to Europe in 2003. Then one day when I was off sick I found Healer on Netflix and the rest is history! Love all genres .. from fluffy rom coms to slice of life to serial killer thriller and legal dramas. I also watch Chinese dramas, mostly historical xian xia genre. This is also influenced by watching all the fabulous Hong Kong kung fu series when I was a kid growing up in Asia. Love the podcast and so excited to be part of the community.

Fonny

Aw yay, welcome Atiny! And thanks for your kids words and welcome welcome!

Megan Erickson

Welcome! Love the spreadsheet. I have a MyDramaList but kinda wish I'd started something like this at the beginning.

Stuart

Hi All! I'm so happy to have found "my people." I started watching Korean and Thai dramas around 2 years ago. I've always liked foreign shows and movies. My favorites were from England, Spain and Latin America. K-dramas started popping up on Netflix, however, I saw they were only 1 season and I just watched a series that stopped at season 3 and they didn't have the rest of the seasons, so I didn't want to fall for that again! My daughter asked me to watch Cinderella and the Four Nights with her and that's when I found out it has a proper ending in season 1. After that, I got a little obsessed with K-dramas, Thai dramas and K-pop. My favorite tropes are enemies to lovers, reversed gender roles, and grumpy CEOs. Some favorites are Coffee Prince, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, The King's Affection, KinnPorsche and Love in the Air. Favorite actor: Park Seo Joon and favorite K-pop group: Ateez! Atiny represent! And love, love, love the podcast. I find myself laughing out loud at work when I listen, especially with the unedited and unscripted podcasts lol

Pam B

Hi all - So happy to join a community of k-drama lovers! My path is very similar to most Americans' entry: started with Crash Landing on You, and got completely hooked with other series. While my family are also fans, my friends have not been convinced yet, and I feel bad that they're missing out! My family and I started a spreadsheet to keep track of our watches and to make recommendations. Here's the public version if you'd like to check it out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FNkljPbqoPtNz8GKFftd98sHu7_t7aOkqIamb7WPjlI/edit?usp=sharing I enjoy all types of k-dramas, though haven't been able to handle tragic endings yet. My comfort re-watches are Mr. Queen, Imitation, and Boys Over Flowers.

Lena M.

Yay--welcome! It's great to have you here!!!!

Megan Erickson

We are starting to get more and more listeners in the UK! You all will need to do a meet up. Also your podcast name is super cute. Excited to check it out. LOLOLOL Hunk of Spunk....I had forgotten that -Lia

Megan Erickson

Hi! I’m ktalkfan on Instagram. :) I have been listening almost since you guys got started and I always enjoy it and I talk about the show to my kdrama addict husband, so I finally decided to join. Our top three favorites are Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Goblin, and Mystic Pop Up Bar. My husband says From Now On, Showtime could be fourth. We like comedy and romance, and I particularly like the shows with ghosts. My job involves a lot of driving so that’s when I listen. I saw something about Love Alarm on Tumblr in 2019, suggested watching it to my husband, and now we watch two episodes a night and he constantly listens to kpop and OSTs in the car and we go to our local Asian grocery store and we eat at Korean restaurants. We’re both probably on the autism spectrum, and Korean culture has definitely become his special interest. Kdramas are to him what whales were to Attorney Woo. I’m 42 so I am right around your age, and it’s so nice to hear people my age talk about the shows.

Stacy

Hi all! I'm so happy to finally enter the world of Patreon...I'm a big fan of the Afternoona's podcast, and feel like I finally found my people 🤣! I'm Emma, I'm from the UK and I'm coming up on my 3rd year of being obsessed with all things Kpop and Kdramas! I'm also currently trying to learn Korean on Duolingo...its very tough, but I'm making progress! My current all time favourite K Drama is It's Okay To Not Be Okay. I am currently watching (and loving) If You Wish Upon Me. And my favourite "Hunk of Spunk" is Mr. Ji Chang Wook ❤️. 31 years old, I'm a Graphic Designer and also a podcast co-host! Being huge book nerds, me and my best friend host a podcast called Books Before Bros...which you can find on Spotify! I'm here because I need an outlet, and I can't wait to join you in one of your support groups. I recently finished Moon Lovers, so I'm in need of some emotional support! My friends, family and colleagues will be eternally grateful. Nice to meet you all! 🫰

Emma O

Welcome! Healer fans unite! Your list of faves is right up my alley!

Lorna

Annyeong!! I’m Lynne, I live in LA and I've been listening to the pod for a few months now, just joined the Patreon! Things I love about the pod: no one else in my life has gone down the Kdrama rabbit hole with me, unless I make them watch a show with me. The pod makes it feel like I have friends that I’m geeking out and swooning over these stories with. Kdramas has reignited my desire to start writing again (I do costume work and dropped a lot of my other creative hobbies from how busy I get) and I love love love getting the “from the writer’s lens” POV. I could talk about character and narrative concepts ALL DAY. It’s why I love costume design to begin with. How I got here: a friend got me to BTS in July 2021. I went down that rabbit hole, went to the Vegas and LA shows, started teaching myself Korean, cooking Korean food, etc. There was a talk show special BTS on Viki, so I did the free trial and then canceled. Viki started showing up in my YouTube and Instagram ads. The drama About Time was coming up, so I gave it a try. I was also curious about how RM from BTS learned English through watching tv shows and wondered if would improve/supplement my Korean learning (spoiler: it DID). About Time is only okay, the female lead actively pursues the male lead, but as soon as he starts to fall for her, she goes stiff and fish eye kisses, drove me crazy. ANYWAY, Tried out Secretary Kim next, which I enjoyed, but felt really uncomfortable with the office power dynamic. Loved Park Min Young though, watched Her Private Life and was HOOKED (I ignore the batshit ending). I loved the kpop connection, the art gallery setting, the flirting, the kissing, and I need more Kim Jae Wook in my life. In general with Kdramas, I think the strict boundaries of male-female relationships feels really familiar to me because I grew up in a conservative Christian family (I’m now agnostic). I love both historical and contemporary shows, but I lean towards anything that will push on those strict boundaries and expectations. Fav shows are: Healer, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, King’s Affection, Her Private Life, CLOY, I Am Not a Robot, Strong Woman Bo Dong Soon, Because This Is My First Life. Newest shows that I think everyone should watch: Love to Hate You (Netflix) and Hit the Spot (Viki) Sorry, this got...long. Can you tell that I don't have anyone to talk to about these shows?? 😂 😂 😂 EDIT: a random nugget! When I was in grad school, I designed the costumes for a cultural exchange/workshop/performance of King Lear. Some theatre students from Seoul came to our school. It just so happens that well over 10 years ago, I costumed one of the supporting actors in It's Okay to Not Be Okay. I had a conniption when I put those pieces together.

Lynne Marie

Your screen name makes me laugh so hard!!!

Megan Erickson

Welcome!! Love your top picks!

Lorna

Hi everyone, I've been a regular listener of afternoona pod for many months now. I like the deep dives a lot but also enjoy an occasional general chat. It's nearly always good listening (lol meat sticks) and fun for me, all 3 hosts are awesome and complement each other really well, I think it's a good balance. I relate to Amy the most; I'm always charmed by Lee Min Ho too but.. Wang He Di has got that something something, he's my bias. About myself, I'm a little older than our hosts, full time employed with hubby, 3 daughters, 2 dogs and 3 cats. I've been a fan of kdrama for a while now, was intro'd to it by my daughter watching Business Proposal. Let me just say Freakin' WOW I was blown away and then Start Up left me a changed woman. I'm now exploring cultures a bit more and venturing heavily into cdrama territory. So far my top 2 fav dramas I haven't even finished - Goblin and Love between Fairy and Devil..... Followed by Healer, Coffee Prince, I am not a robot and Start Up in 3rd place (sorry not sorry couldn't separate them). My reasons for dnf my top 2 is because I'm gonna need support to get me through the feels. Its tough doing it alone so I'm really happy to have joined this community.

Angelica

Hello! I just discovered the wonderful world of k-dramas about 6 months ago, and I'm so happy I discovered your podcast a few weeks ago. I have so many episodes to catch-up on! Not only do I enjoy hearing your thoughts on the different dramas, but I love all the side stories about daily life. I'm around the same age with similar aged kids. Episode 60 about tropes and vomit/lice/pee had me laughing out loud. The struggles are real! I love the no holds barred discussions of all your yums and yucks! So far my favorite dramas have been Healer, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, and Business Proposal. Thanks for brightening my podcast and k-drama experience!

Mate Me Dong Man

UGH for Covid but I'm glad we helped you pass the time. Healthy thoughts and as my husband is from Melbourne I go back a lot!!! -Lia

Hi Irene and welcome to the space...so excited to have you here and that Megan's wet meat sticks made you feel right at home LOL. Excited to connect more!

Megan Erickson

hi everyone, i'm so excited to find this community! i'm based in taiwan and i watched my first kdrama (cloy) in august 2022 while getting over serious jetlag. i've only watched a few more since then (business proposal & hometown cha cha cha - loved them!), but have been a longtime fan of mandarin-language dramas. i found afternoona delight actually through your episode on LBFAD, and am excited for Afternoona Delight's foray into cdramas! i love the dynamic between you three and could not stop laughing during the last episode i listened to about megan's wet meat sticks. thanks for being yourselves and for making this podcast!

june

Hi everyone! I am a big k-drama and k-pop fan from Melbourne. I started listening to AfterNoona Delight after getting covid in Nov last year... and have been a devoted listener ever since! I am joining the Patreon community as Megan, Amy and Lia have once again kept me company as I recovered from COVID the second time round. Thank you for this! Some of my fave dramas include CLoY (of course), Because This is My First Life, 18 Again, Search WWW, Go Back Couple, Healer, Alchemy of Souls and Twenty-Five Twenty-One :D

Diem Nguyen

I’m so glad we have helped—you all help us get through our life stress too so it’s one big symbiotic loop. I am always in the mood for a quality tsundere character :)

Megan Erickson

I have the same debates constantly between Thai BL and mostly Cishet Kdrama. I would love to see a period fantasy that combines some of the best angst and feels of a quality BL. Universe, make it so! And welcome!!!

Megan Erickson

We are doing Alchemy 1&2 tthis quarter! I need to binge Hit the Spot to pod about it next week lol. Welcome to community—excited to connect more

Megan Erickson

Hello and thank you for the kind words! It’s so fun to meet new members and see where you all are on this wild fan journey! I hope you settle in here and we are friendly if slightly inappropriate bunch (speaking mostly for myself) -Lia

Megan Erickson

Ball vacs!!! Lol!! I’m always down for a big feels c-drama so please feel free to toss any my way…I love emotional pain but prefer an HEA. Welcome to the community!! -Lia

Megan Erickson

Hi Raymond! Welcome! I go to Melbourne pretty much every year to see in-laws. I know the whole area quite well. If you are finding yourself obsessed you are in the right company!!! Welcome aboard

Megan Erickson

I'm an American, but I've lived in Melbourne, Australia the past 10+ years. Started watching k-dramas in 2022 and I've watched way too many of them and is it an obsession when you start a Tumblr just to be able to talk about dramas or is it completely normal behavior? Asking for a friend... Just finished Hospital Playlist (both seasons). Looking around for my next drama.

Raymond Hodgson

Welcome! Love your favorites list! Itaewon Class, Just Between Lovers and Lighter & Princess might be right up your alley.

Lorna

Oopsies! I accidentally deleted my orig intro bc I’m a newb and this is literally the first time I’m using patreon. I live outside of Boston in a Chinese-Korean-American household. Started watching Asian dramas as a child in the 80s, then picked them up for a bit during matleave with BOF and Fated to Love You. I found my groove again during the pandemic with DOTS, Goblin, and Cloy. My all time top 7 are: Goblin, Fated to Love You, Nirvana in Fire 1&2, LBFAD,Love Rain, and Fight My Way. After LBFAD, I’ve created a bucket list of iconic Cdramas to dive into my heritage a bit more. I’ve listened to 95% of afternoona episodes, aalmost exclusively while trail running. Am excited to support this podcast and the highly intellectual discussions on topics like ball vacs and meat sticks. 😘😘

Hi all, I am happy to be part of the Afternoona Delights community. My name is Susa and I am moving strongly towards 40. Last year, Extraordinary Attorney Woo introduced me to the world of KDramas. Since then I have been working hard to catch up :D In the process, I've fortunately also come across Megan, Lia and Amy. My favourites include Healer, 2521, Goblin, Flower of Evil, While you were sleeping, The King's Affection, I am not a robot. I like the intense, epic dramas with romance and action and a number of tropes like Enemies to lovers, Fake Dating. Meanwhile, I've also delved into the world of CDramas with my all time love LBFAD and favourites like Love like the galaxy and Meet yourself. I look forward to be part of this community and my friends are very hopful that i will now talk less about KDramas to them :D

Susa

I absolutely love Healer's repeat entries on this list. Yes! Welcome!

After laughing out loud in delight while listening to many episodes of your podcast over the past month, I just had to join your Patreon. Thanks for your great recommendations, analysis, wisdom, wit, etc. I'm a 50+ IT pro who found K-dramas thru Crash Landing on You - which will always remain my First Love. Some of my favorite Kdramas are (in no particular order) Coffee Prince, Twenty Five Twenty One, Healer, Hospital Playlist, Mr. Queen, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Healer, Secret Garden, Goblin, Tale of the Nine-Tailed, My Love from the Star, Itaewon Class, Boys over Flowers, Master's Sun, Healer, Jealousy Incarnate, Kill Me Heal Me, 18 Again, Shopping King Louie, Rain or Shine, My Mister, Flower of Evil, Healer, Strongest Deliveryman, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Gaus Electronics, and many others. Thanks for your podcast (along with the K-Pop podcast as well.)

I play BTS in the Seom casually. I'm Nm67

Noellagm

Hi all, I am a (relatively) long time listener but am new to Patreon. I am a 50+ mom of 2 teenagers (started late) and love the perspective that you bring to things. I'm the one at book club who actually likes discussing the books (while drinking the wine!) so I appreciate the analysis that you bring and tying back to broader themes. I actually need to stop myself from talking out loud since I often feel as if your discussions are ones that I could be having with my friends and I want to jump in! I started down this rabbit hole with CLOY the summer of 2020, and also got into BTS that winter when Life Goes On was released. So now I bounce back and forth between Kdramas and BTS content; I've watched about 25 Kdrama series/movies to date (had to consult my list!), just finished Goblin and of course had to listen to the podcast episodes part 1 &2, and also saw Yet to Come in Cinemas last night and am going again tonight. I live in NYC. Excited to be here! PS hard to believe I am gainfully employed but if anyone plays BTS in the Seom let me know! @hummiebird

Hi ladies. After finding your pod last summer, I’ve finally joined your Patreon. I’m semiretired and started watching KDramas about a year ago. Yours was the first pod I found and IMO, still the best. I thank you for the recs. I’m Not A Robot, Semantic Error and Color Rush are just a few that I’ve watched based on your pod. I’ve messaged with Lia on IG. (Justme856) and think I may have convinced her to watch Alchemy of Souls and Under the Queen’s Umbrella. Really looking forward to the “Hit The Spot” pod. I know I’ll be laughing my a** off with your takes on it.

LouAnn Kirk

Hi, Everyone! My name is Gavin, and I’m absolutely stoked to be a part of this group now. Thank you Megan, Amy, and Lia for doing this, I seriously look forward to the new episodes every Wednesday. I first made my way to the land of Kdramas and Afternoona Delight by way of BLs, specifically Semantic Error (that height difference though). Thai BLs led me to Korean BLs which piqued my interest in Kdramas as a whole, and then I watched Crash Landing On You. Watching CLoY was like calmly paragliding only to be swept away by a surprise tornado. I was unexpectedly led to a new love. It’s been about a year now since that first watch of CLoY, and I’ve just fallen deeper down the rabbit hole. But honestly, I’m not even trying to climb my way out because who wants to live in a world without Lee Joon Gi and Rowoon. I now spend quite a bit of my free time watching either a BL or a kdrama. It’s always a big debate in my head trying to decide between the two. Period dramas and fantasy are the genres I tend to lean towards the most, and if they somehow combine the two, like Mr. Queen and Alchemy of Souls, even better!

Hi! I'm Misha. Long time podcast listener. I also got into kdramas during the pandemic/grad school for stress relief! Love enemies to lovers, epic romances, slice of life, tsundere characters, friends- lovers, high intensity shows (flower of evil, happiness), second chance romances, the list could just go on and on. Depends on my mood! Love the pod and it's gotten me through some stressful times with school and starting my new job!

Misha Suresh

LOL thank you and look I'm a soft spot for those characters generally...but mostly if their romantic arc busts them into becoming marshmallows (Lia). Thanks for your kind words

Megan Erickson

Hi! I'm new-ish to KDrama but it's pretty much all I watch now! I love anything with an alphahole/tsundere or genuinely douchy and awful but I love cute slice of life too. I've been binging everything on Spotify and you guys are easily my favorite pod!

Nicole Lazarowicz

I love Fated Mates--it's introduced so many great books into my life. Welcome here and I'm glad Netflix forced your hands lololol -Lia

Megan Erickson

Hey I'm Monica - American in London. Currently binge listening to your podcast backlist. :D I also got obsessed with k-dramas during the pandemic due to Netflix pushing The King Eternal Monarch on me until I caved. I cannot believe I just found your podcast. I'm a huge fan of the romance novel podcast Fated Mates, but they don't talk k-drama. This is basically my catnip

Monica Kelly

Stuart!!!!! Yes so glad to have you here and owning the love of a romcom. Park Min Young is queen of this land. Chat with us!

Megan Erickson

welcome Stuart!

Noellagm

Hi! My name is Stuart and I'm from Northern Ireland. I feel I may be ever so slightly outnumbered being a guy here but what can I say, I'm addicted to kdramas! So how to did I get here? At the end of 2020 I got COVID for Christmas (thanks Sis) and found myself home alone for a number of weeks. Looking for things to watch I ended up digging in to some foreign TV shows. Things like The Rain, Ragnarok and Dark. Eventually finding my way to Alice in Borderland. Few months after that the world got hit with Squid Game. Did this pull me into Korean TV? Not immediately but it certainly put it on my radar. Enough so that I was counting the days for the release of All of Us Are Dead and this definitely made me hungry for more. Quickly followed this up more shows like Sweet Home and Hellbound, monster/supernatural things. And then Netflix recommended me a show which changed everything...Healer. So I was one of these guys that scoffed at the idea of watching anything with romance in it. Turned my nose up at even the idea of watching romantic comedies. But then I watched Healer, and then I watched A Business Proposal, and then I watched Hometown Cha Cha Cha, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Her Private Life, Forecasting Love and Weather (you may have spotted a certain recurring actress there). And as it turns out, seems I quite enjoy a romantic comedy! So here I am, 42 dramas in with 3 on-going. Struggled to get any of my friends to even give kdramas a go, so I searched about and that’s how I discovered this very Podcast. If I can’t find people to chat with about these shows at the very least I can listen to others talk about them. Sorry for rambling on but just glad to become part of the community.

Stuart

Hi Kamiie, welcome!

Noellagm

Hi! In typical fashion, I’ve jumped into the discussions before intro-ing myself! My nick-name is Kamiie and I am a full blown drama addict. It’s 90% of what I watch on TV or listen to on the radio (willingly) which is how I found this podcast…I get upset when I’m forced to watch something else (b/c someone in my orbit turns on the TV before me😆) I am originally from the California Bay Area but now live in Georgia…I’ve been watching dramas since 2017, and my first drama was Heirs. I was an avid (romance) reader until I had a kid…so drama’s fulfill that need without me needing to pickup a book. I have watched over 160 dramas according to mydramalist, my favorite is Healer, 2015-2017 had the most kick-ass dramas IMO, and I never watch a drama twice…half the fun is the hunt for my next drama… I do most of my hunting on Reddit. Looking forward to discussing all things drama related here! I’m so excited to have a place to discuss my obsession with like minded people!

K W

This is such a great intro! You've been watching kdramas since 2010?! You might be new to the Patreon, but you bring a ton of knowledge with you.

Kathi

Hello everyone! I have finally decided to join you all here on Patreon, even though I have been listening to the podcast for over a year. Kdramas and Kpop have been in my life since 2010, when I transitioned from anime to Japanese dramas and then Korean dramas with the iconic craziness that is Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango). While I cringe at it now, back then, I was obsessed, which led me to Dramafever (RIP) and eventually Viki, where I discovered hundreds of amazing shows over the years. Boys Over Flowers also led me to discover SHINee, and then I fell down the Kpop wormhole to the point that I stan too many groups. Shows that I loved and/or can rewatch because they comfort me are: - Healer (always in my top 3), - Dali and The Cocky Prince (a great light romantic comedy plus Kim Min Jae), - Reply 1988 (All the Reply series tbh), - Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (Nam Joo Hyuk is a puppy w emotional wounds), - I Hear Your Voice (maybe not aging the best, but still a great noona romance), - Happiness (Park Hyung Sik post-military glow-up is insane), - The Moon Embracing The Sun (started my saeguk obsession), - 2521 (That ending was sad but beautiful), - Coffee Prince (a classic that still gets it), - Pretty Proofreader (Office Jdrama with a charismatic female lead), - You Are My Glory (Cdrama I watched for YangYang and the e-sport element), - Once Again (Weekender drama - 52 eps but the couples are cute), - Do You Like Brahms? (severely underrated imo plus Kim Min Jae), - Business Proposal (pure romantic comedy gold) I could keep listing shows as I have been watching for so long and have seen too many. As to Kpop, I like a lot of groups, but the ones I really listen to consistently: - SHINee (my first loves), - ATEEZ (Hongjoong is the captain now), - EXO (I love Baekhyun...that voice ugh), - ENHYPEN (my sons the monster rookies), - VIXX (Concept Kings), - Day6 (my mostly emo kings), - Victon (Vocal & Dimple City), - GOT7 (I love their craziness together and all their solos too), - BTS (I love their older stuff a lot more, but RM is always it) I apologize for the long intro, but please know I am super excited to be a part of this community and talk all things Asian dramas and music.

Rachel G

I am so sad I missed this, as I just finished Lawless Lawyer and have feelings about it.

Kara Guminski

yay welcome!

Megan Erickson

Hi, I'm a K-Drama lover from Portugal, currently living in Germany. I've started my K-Drama journey a couple of years ago with Stranger but like many others it was really CLOY that made me obsessed. My favourite dramas are Reply 1988, Hospital Playlist, Healer, Our Beloved Summer and 2521. I don't know many people irl with whom to discuss K-Dramas so looking forward to the community here!

Tania H.

You would love Young Actors' Retreat on Viki. That show is giving me life without parole!

Kara Guminski

Hi, I just joined the Patreon. I'm a 50-something mom of 3 grown sons. I got into Kdrama through CLOY during the middle of the pandemic, and then spent the whole next summer binging show after show. I live in Washington DC, and I hate politics, so Kdrama is my escape. Then after Hospital Playlist I discovered that I enjoy watching Korean celebrities go on vacation, which eventually led me to BTS In the Soop, and now I am stanning BTS. I haven't made it past BTS as far as KPop goes. There's so much content, and only so much time!

Noellagm

Annyeonghaseyo! I feel like I've found my tribe! I am a relative newcomer to kdramas having started last year with Hometown Cha Cha Cha. The emotion of Kim Seonho blew me away and I've been hooked ever since. CLOY is one of my favorites and I've watched it 3 times (I sense more to come in my future!). Coffee Prince and Business Proposal are other firm favs. While I'm not a huge fan of slice of life, I found Our Blues sooooo compelling. Amazing storytelling plus amazing acting. what's not to love?! I'm from The Bahamas, but I live in London, UK with my husband and sons who want nothing to do with my kdramas! So thank you for your service Afternoonas! lol!

Heather CK

i love a good ending and a happily-ever-after but know that kdrama doesn’t always deliver that which causes angst. Happy to be a part of this group and meet you all.

Monica

Hi folks! My 75 yo aunt started me down the kdrama rabbit hole with the gateway being CLOY followed by Coffee Prince, then Goblin, and then I was introduced to LMH and down another rabbit hole I went-Amy, I’m right there with you on that man. I chat with my aunt every Saturday over virtual coffee date and we compare our tales. She is

Monica

Hi Krista! Glad we can lament over being late to the game BTS fans together. 😂 I’m also in the PNW (outside of Portland). Hope your summer is off to a great start.

Nicole H

Hi fellow kdrama friends! I have fallen down the rabbit hole of kdrama just this year after Netflix randomly suggested I watch Business Proposal and have been at it ever since (so if you remember when it came out, I'm more of a newbie!). I work in tech and live up in the PNW (Washington state). My hobbies, outside of binging kdrama, include horseback riding, exercising, dreaming about starting my own business (and maybe writing a book someday), and drinking good wine! Thus far my favorite kdramas are It's Okay to Not Be Okay and Goblin. I am into that deep adversity/struggle but happy ending kdrama vibe. So excited to engage with all of you in this space!

Krista

Hello! I used to live in Portland before moving to Salem for work. Portland is the best and I miss living there!

Shannon

Hello friends! I'm happy to say that I have dual citizenship to the KDrama and Star Trek fandoms. I'm from Texas but currently live in Portland, OR! I got sucked into kdramas around 2018 after watching Let's Eat! on an impulse because I was hungry. My all-time favorites include Mr Sunshine, Chicago Typewriter, and Something in the Rain. I started listening to this podcast just under a week ago and I am OBSESSED.

Chelsea Guidry Atkin

Hi fellow Oregon dweller!

Chelsea Guidry Atkin

Hello! My name is Shannon, and I joined this Patreon after recently discovering the Afternoona Delight podcast. I live in Oregon. In addition to watching K dramas, I spend my time mostly working (I am a trial attorney at the Oregon Department of Justice) or crafting (I do a lot of cross-stitching). My favorite older K dramas are Coffee Prince and My Lovely Sam-Soon, and my comfort watch is Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo.

Shannon

Hi! Long time listener, first time patron. I am just another basic cloy Stan - watched it during the pandemic, and like Amy, immediately watched it again. I’m pretty sure I haven’t watched anything but kdramas since unless my family forces me. I am limited to Netflix and Hulu so there are a bunch of shows I want to watch but not enough to get yet another subscription. I just finished 2521 and business proposal and am watching tomorrow and start Up. I live in Oregon, work in higher education and have 2 young adult sons. I studied Japanese in college and lived in Asia during the early 90’s. I remember the people I met in Korea at the time telling me that Korea was poised to take over the world, so I’d better start learning Korean. They meant Korea taking over high-tech. I don’t think anyone at that time was imagining the impact Korea has on entertainment, but they were certainly prescient about learning Korean. I now wish I had studied korean harder!

Sara Henson

Hi everyone! My name is Cheyenne and I am a Southern California native who somehow ended up in snowy North Dakota. My kdrama journey began in late 2020 when True Beauty came out. I am a huge fan of the webtoon and was eagerly anticipating the drama. Little did I know it would be the kickstart to my now, very intense, k-content addiction. I adored True Beauty and all of its ridiculousness, and once I started I was consuming as many kdramas as I could find. Next up for me was CLOY (#BinJinForever), Goblin, and What's Wrong with Secretary Kim! I then found Vincenzo soon after and my deep, deep love for Song Joong Ki began. Some of my other favorite dramas include Start Up, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, IOTNBO, Happiness, and the newly finished Business Proposal. I have only found two dramas so far that I was not a huge fan of, sorry to anyone who loves Run On or Rookie Historian, they were just not my cup of tea! I am also a huge fan of k-pop (SKZ, BTS, Ateez, Astro, and The Boyz are my current favorites), romance novels, and reality shows on Netflix. Looking forward to joining the AfterNoona community!

Cheyenne Katsanakis

Hi All! I'm Kara, an American living in Berlin. One of my friends here recommended CLOY during the lockdown, and I've barely watched anything in English or German since. My top dramas are Reply 1988, CLOY, Descendants of the Sun, Itaewon Class, Run On, The King Eternal Monarch, and Tale of the Nine Tailed. World of the Married is also up there, and MAN, is that a wild ride. I also hold some unpopular opinions: While I enjoyed Goblin, the Lolitaishness of it pulled me out of the story. (I will also never let go of the opinion that the story of the second leads in Goblin was more interesting and better acted.) I couldn't get into It's Okay to Not Be Okay, and I HATED Nevertheless. Vincenzo was only OK. If we're discussing our baes: Hyun Bin, Lee Dong-Wook, Lee Min-Ho, Park Bo-Gum, and Kim Jae-Wook are five men who definitely wouldn't be unwelcome in my view, my home, my life. I'm really excited to be here in this club with all of you!

Kara Guminski

Hi everyone! My name is Nicole, and I started watching Kdramas last fall. My husband stumbled across CLOY first, and I’m sure he’s regretted telling me about it ever since. I actually started with Hometown Cha Cha Cha, quickly followed by Her Private Life and CLOY. Since then, I’ve been binging non-stop. I’ve always loved romance novels and was super excited to find this whole new (to me) world full of romance but also humor, action, “who done it”, etc. It’s been the perfect escape from my Covid + full-time working mom of a toddler life. My top two dramas at the moment are probably CLOY and Healer. Other favorites include My Roommate is a Gumiho, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, It’s OK To Not Be OK, When the Camellia Blooms, and Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung. I love listening to the podcast breakdown everything from the writing craft and favorite tropes to turtlenecks and thirst traps. Can’t wait to chat with everyone!

Nicole H

Hello ! I'm Lisa I'm from France and I love listening to the podcast at work, where I try to keep my laughs very quiet but sometimes fail. As I'm getting more into romance lit, TV and everything, your podcast is also educational for me, as well as entertaining, so thank you !! ☺️ I started watching kdrama with CLOY in 2020, then never stopped. I have a lot of favourites but these are my top, 10/10, dramas : just between lovers, when the weather is fine, thirty but seventeen. My type appears to be healing dramas where both leads are damaged but learn to lean on eachother, but my journey has just began, I try to stay curious about all genre/stories. My to-watch list is never ending but I love getting recs anyway, that's why I love the "what are you watching now/next" portion of the pod, I always take notes 👀 Looking forward to talk to everyone here and listen to the next episodes 😁 안녕!

Lisa H

We are so happy to have you here, Jina! And it's absolutely okay to have differing opinions. I think we all love to debate why we LOVE something, but it's just as fascinating to hear why people don't connect with certain content and can be a very enriching discussion.

Megan Erickson

Hi everyone! So excited to be here. As as Korean American millenial, I only got into kramas at the start of COVID, and here I am today. I remember watching kdramas as a kid with my parents (where they would go to HMart/Korean video stores to RENT VHS tapes every week when new episodes would come out), and am so pleasantly surprised at the availability and access of kdramas now. I have watched all of the popular ones in the last couple of years, and am always watching at least 2 (an older + newer) at a time. Yes, I'm hooked and not ashamed at all. I also view it as picking up more Korean (I'm basic to proficient) and of course, a lot of healing through some of the dramas. I do certainly have different views and unpopular opinions than some others (for ex: could not finish Goblin, I tried... and as much as I love GY, a few things bothered me so much about that drama). I discovered this podcast when I was searching for something fun to listen to during my long drives over winter break, and phew, how fun to listen to the three of you dish about personal + kdrama tropes + thirst traps + Korean culture. Looking forward to your episodes and this community as well. <3

Jina

Not weird that you are a man--that's fantastic and you are blazing the trail. Stoked to have you here!!!!

Megan Erickson

YAY! We are doing a short snack on King's Affection. Well, it will be just me but also Sarah (who is in this space and an occasional guest host). Oh Hyun, hurting my heart.

Megan Erickson

Hi! I'm annoying everyone I know with Kdrama talk so I'm so glad to find this place. I got started just last month on King's Affection. Hyun 4-ever :) LOVE LOVE LOVE that whole show. I was hooked and then moved on to CLOY. Took a minute for me to get into it. I ditched it after two episodes and then went back and am so glad I did. SWOON FOREVER. Found your podcast when I was looking for more people to talk to about this! I currently only have the one friend who recommended King's Affection. Now I'm paralyzed to figure out what to watch next! Haven't downloaded Viki yet, but it's only a matter of time. I know Netflix has plenty for now.

Becky

Hello! My name is Barisbi. Weirdly, I'm a man (have yet to meet another guy who's into dramas, but fingers crossed). My favorite drama is called Beauty Inside, but there are so many I love that it's hard to choose: Coffee Prince, The Legend of the Blue Sea, Dream High, Another Miss Oh, Mr. Queen and others. I'm also a fan of Chinese dramas, among which The Romance of Tiger and Rose and Arsenal Military Academy hold a special place in my heart.

Barisbi

So much of what you are saying is highly relatable and I'm so glad that you found your way here to have some connection! You are NOT alone....and found lots of folks who understand your feelings! xxxx Welcome!

Megan Erickson

I joined the AfterNoona Patreon community earlier this week and have been checking out various posts. I just now realized there was a thread under this adorable GIF of Yoo Seung Ho as Kim Min Kyu from I’m not a Robot. Your use of this image for the welcome message is such a coincidence because I just finished watching I’m not a Robot and I felt so appreciative for the recommendation from the podcast to watch it that I decided to become a patron. I’m a 63 year old woman who is an empty nester and I don’t know anyone who watches Kdramas, so I’ve had no one to gush to after watching CLOY, Goblin, It’s Okay to not be Okay, One Spring Night, Healer, and so many other shows. This has been especially hard during the pandemic because, along with feeling isolated, my sense of anxiety is heightened. Kdramas have been my tonic – especially shows that have romance with beautifully staged kiss scenes, a bit of comedy, cultural references that expand my world, and a dash of action (no zombies). Your podcast lets me know I’m not alone in my feelings about Kdramas plus you steer me toward so many shows that I would otherwise never hear about. I also like your product recommendations – I write this as I’m sipping a cup of coffee made from a Maxim Mocha Gold coffee stick!

Kathi

Hi! So happy to be here! I discovered Crash Landing on You during quarantine like a lot of people, and it’s still my favorite! I love a love story - horror and thriller aren’t really my jam

Elizabeth Deprey

My heart still breaks for Jeremy. I loved that drama too. In fact I think I still have some Pig Rabbit merch somewhere...

Jules

Hello! I've been watching kdramas since 2012 when my friend pulled me into watching Playful Kiss with her. My favorite are the romcoms, and that's usually what I stick to. Definitely not a fan of the supernatural or thriller dramas. My top 3 dramas are Reply 1997, I Can Hear Your Voice, & Healer.

Jules

So many favorites, but Be Melodramatic (or Melo is My Nature) is my favorite, and for comfort when I want to re-watch something Romance is a Bonus Book never lets me down.

Lauren Cohen

Hello all! Nice connect with other Kdrama fans here. My path here is similar to so many others' recently--CLOY as a gateway, followed in rapid succession by Something in the Rain and then Start-Up. I became a Kim Seon-ho fan and really loved Hometown Cha Cha Cha, too--will rewatch very soon. That said, the dramas that won't let me go are those by Lee Woo-jung (Reply series & Hospital Playlist), and also Because This Is My First Life. I'm also a big fan of the K-variety show 2 Days & 1 Night S4 (Korean travel, food, and games, on Viki).

Antonina (Tonya)

20's too go to low on my list. I like slice of life dramas, but a little mystery thrown in doesn't hurt.

Jodi Guira

My favorite kdrama of all time is You're Beautiful, it was my first and what I always went back to. Can I see the faults in it now. yes I can, but it holds too much of my 20

Jodi Guira

Sorry, if I could stop pushing too many buttons. It's nice to have people who love kdramas as much as I do!!! I love listening to your pods as I drive to work because it makes the traffic bearable!!

Jodi Guira

Jodi Guira

My name is Jodi, I found your podcast a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE it. I recently discovered podcasts in general, and your pod and Seoul Mates are my favorite for k-dramas. It

Jodi Guira

Some of my favorites are CLOY, Fated to Love You, Goblin....the list goes on and on really... But I've noticed I'm really into time travel romances (maybe because of Outlander) and stuff that is going to really give me all the feels.

Hayley Haun

Loved Chocolate, excepting some of the main characters and the ending...so just in it for the hospice crew and food?

Hannah

Haha, Lia will back you up on Something in the Rain!

Megan Erickson

Okay, so I started Hometown and love it. I want to watch Yumi and Cocky Prince so you must update us about how you are liking them! -Megan

Megan Erickson

Currently watching: Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Yumi's Cells, and Dali and the Cocky Prince -- all so great so far.

CD

I also started with CLOY! So far have loved CLOY, Reply 1988 and 1997 (preferred ending of 97, of course), Hospital Playlist, Healer, Secret Love Affair, Touch Your Heart, Search:WWW, Weightlifting Fairy, Start Up, Mad for Each Other, Do You Like Brahms, Fight For My Way & One Spring Night. I couldn't enjoy Goblin as much as I wanted to because I couldn't get over the age difference. Biggest disappointment is the last 8 episodes of Something in the Rain -- what a waste!

CD

(ears perk) does Another Miss Oh have a problematic hero? Is it wrong that I'm not sad if it does? (Lia)

Megan Erickson

Ooooh My Mister is your top choice! I need to watch that sooooooooon (Lia)

Megan Erickson

I love a list so I try maintain my Top 10, though it's getting super hard, largely because of the conflict between a great drama (say Move to Heaven) vs one that isn't winning any drama prizes but that just won my heart and I just loved (I am not a Robot, Touch your Heart) but (deep breath) in descending order: My Mister, CLOY, Healer, Goblin, I am not a Robot, It's Ok to not be Ok, Hospital Playlist, Mr Queen, Still 17, Move to Heaven

Sarah @afternoonaasks

Hello, I want a lot of romance and a problematic hero. One of my favorite kdramas and definitely the one I have watched the most is Another Miss OH.

Alison D.

Hi everyone! I am Sarah, lifelong romance reader living in the UK (which is how i discovered this pod, via Romance FB group spinoff). I am British Born (HK) Chinese and I grew up on HK TV series, so there are some familarities for me (drama length, tropes on fate, plot contrivances like amnesia etc) but new to Kdrama - I had a similar KDrama journey to you 3, CLOY was by gateway drama and gave me an emotional "fix" i needed during COVID and I've been almost exclusively watching KDramas since then.

Sarah @afternoonaasks

These are all great. I LOVED fleabag (Lia)

Megan Erickson

I guess if a show delights me as much as the British show Fleabag(brilliant) it's on my list of faves. Some of the above are similar to Fleabag for quality and emotional reaction.

LauraPat H

Lol, so many! And several have had delightful moments/scenes...Goblin, CLOY are favourites that I will rewatch. Reply 1988 is in rewatch mode right now....just finished 2nd watch of 1997. Her Private Life also rewatched. Kmovie Tune in For Love, plus Jung Hae In also in One Spring Night.

LauraPat H

Welcome to the K-drama Fandom, Laura! What's been your favorite drama to date....if you can choose. I'm finding it harder and harder (Lia).

Megan Erickson

I am Laura, recent kdrama fan, a 63 year old astounded by the fantastic story telling and fascinating cultural exposure. I've been enjoying your podcasts for some months now. Looking forward to seeing what Patreon can offer!
