Porridge The Final Episode

Porridge s3 e6

As you so rightly say, Alan, this is a brilliantly written show. The writers, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais wrote another great sitcom in 1964 called “The Likely Lads,” about Bob and Terry, two average working class lads growing up in the industrial North East of England whose hobbies are beer, football and girls. They are street-wise, yet they stumble into one scrape after another as they struggle to enjoy the Swinging Sixties on their meagre incomes. The series lasted 3 seasons, although sadly only 10 episodes have survived, but in 1973 the same writers bought the two young lads back in colour, in a sequel called “Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?” which ran 26 episodes over two seasons and was, for me, better than the original 60s version. The same two writers would also go on to write for a series called “Auf Wiedersehen, Pet,” a 1983 comedy-drama about British bricklayers, carpenters and electricians unemployed due to the recession in Thatcher’s Britain in the early 1980s, forcing a group of these tradesmen to relocate to Germany to get work. The show lasted 4 seasons, and each series had the same group of men working together in either a different country or a different part of England. The show was a smash hit and seasons 2, 3 and 4 are good, but they cannot hold a candle to the brilliance that was the first series set in Germany. All 3 shows are well worth watching if you can get hold of them. You won’t be disappointed.

You should definitely watch "Going Straight". It's not got many episodes and has a perfect end for Fletcher's character.

Excellent. Thank you so much for the Porridge series reactions. Before you do the sequel (going straight) how about finishing off porridge with the Movie 'PORRIDGE'?
