The Daleks and a New Doctor

Comments

Hadn't watch series 1 for a while. Really enjoyed rewatching it with your reactions. It holds up really well. Eccleston is just fantastic. IF you get the chance. I highly reccomend seeking out The Second Coming. It's a 2 part mini series starring Eccleston and written by Russell T Davies which they did just before Dr Who. It's a brilliant bit of TV - and ask the question, what would happen if The Second Coming of Christ genuinely happened today. High concept, absolutely brilliant thought provoking TV. One of the best things I've ever seen. I won't spoil it - but I highly reccomend it. In fact when Eccleston announced as the new Doctor - I head it on the radio and actually jumped out of my chair & punched the air - I was THAT excited, based on that 2 part serial. Anyway - great reaction as always. Looking forward to catching up with the rest of Dr Who. Thanks!

it's such a shame christopher eccleston left after just one series as he was such a great doctor and basically made the revival a success. but hey, we got david tennant who is also amazing and you're gonna love him! i think what impresses me about series 1 in 2005 was how well they got it put together with such a small budget and production. like, in my opinion, this season alone beats some of the MCU shows like "secret invasion" which had a $200+ million budget. sure, this season looks quite outdated now, but the writing and execution are great. you can have fancy special effects but if there's no substance in the writing, directing or acting then... what's the point honestly? i think what you'll come to find is that doctor who excels creatively when it's challenged with budget or production limitations especially in it's early times. love this show for that reason alone. not sure why i went on a rant about VFX and budget but yeah love your reactions, man! really hope you're enjoying the show so far and i can't wait for the next!

The Daleks are kinda like the Borg, if one survives it can easily replenish it's numbers.

The reason Eccleston only did one season of Who is because right from the start of filming the first couple of episodes, he didn’t like how the show runner and his producer were treating the crew on the series. Production fell behind because those working for the BBC weren’t as versed in Hollywood type special effects, and the whole production team were under the cosh to get episodes completed on time! Consequently, tempers became frayed and I guess the show runner and the producer were feeling the pressure more than the rest of the crew! Eccleston took offence to how the crew were treated, and tendered his resignation! The finale had to be changed to accommodate a regeneration, and the production team were hoping they could keep it a surprise to the viewers so it would be shocking to see without prior warning. Unfortunately, word soon got out about Eccleston resigning, and it became public just before the 2nd episode aired! Since he completed work on Doctor Who, back in 2005, Eccleston has never worked on a BBC production again that was filmed by the Corporation (he has worked for independent companies which sold their product to the BBC), and he has never, and will never, work with Russell T. Davies again (who was Who’s show runner!) It’s a crying shame that Eccleston didn’t get to do a second series, but his departure opened the way for David Tennant who I think you will also love! Without Eccleston being a success as The Doctor in this reboot, the series wouldn’t have got past its first season, so for that Chris, I and many others salute you! To me, and many others you were a ‘fantastic’ Doctor!

Although the end of the month is not long here, I joined too! I couldn't wait, because this season finale is really good! P.S.: You won't be disappointed in the sequels either!

What a finale indeed, consistently considered one of the best season finales in sci fi TV history. Full of fantastic moments. Notably what it means for the Doctor. Eccleston is often nicknamed the PTSD incarnation, so the events that happen here are very much him coming to terms and confronting the trauma of the Time War and allowing him to move on. The Daleks have never been scarier, with the demagogue nature of the Emperor, quite literally space Nazis. And then they kill all those innocent defenceless people. The bit where Rose makes her argument about life with the Doctor is quite powerful and very much defines Nu Who at least. The myth around the Doctor is that death and destruction follow him in his wake, but it couldn’t be more wrong. The Doctor being a Time Lord might as well be a god, a lonely god, last of his species and all. But more to the point, he lives up to his name to defy the myth. With everyone he meets, he exudes such intelligence and trustworthiness and charisma and humanity even though he’s an alien, and with such a determination to be in the right, that he brings out the best in people. He is a Doctor, he makes people around him better. And for a TV show, that makes for a fantastic character. Because you can’t help but smile when he smiles. Which leads me to the regeneration. I absolutely cried my eyes out as a kid when this episode aired. But more than even for Rose, the Doctor hangs on to explain to the new fans watching this frightened perhaps that he’s possibly dying right in front of us. It couldn’t be a better send of. He isn’t defeated by the thought of death, he’s smiling through it all. It’s an immensely reassuring moment that everything will be ok. And of course, everything will turn out ok, because now we come to Tennant. Oh my word! You are in for a treat! But just a quick note. This probably isn’t on the DVDs you have but there’s a mini episode between the finale and the next episode, called Born Again. You'll probably have to find it on YouTube, it's only a few minutes long but it helps explain the opening a bit more of the next full length episode The Christmas Invasion.

Can't wait for your reaction to Tennants doctor 😁😁 Eccleston was great but Tennant was brilliant!

That last episode is so emotional! I always end up crying! Chris Eccleston was the perfect Dr for the reboot and a lot of people, including me, are sad he only did one series but you will love David Tennant so don't worry.😊

I don't know who told you Dalek was spelt with an r in it but it's not!!!🤣

The Doctor is dead, long live the Doctor, its a shame Christopher Eccleston did not do another series but his performances made a real success of the reboot. MOJO rated all the Doctors David Tennent was rated top then Tom Baker, Matt Smith who follows Tennent, Jon Pertwee and Eccleston were the top 5 but its all a matter of opinion, thanks again.

This was great. And you’ll like the new Doctor, even if he is rude and not ginger 😝
