I’d like to share some thoughts on the TV shows that were mentioned in the opening conversation: Credentials : I’ve been a hardcore fan of American TV shows since junior high, and I’m now 31. I’ve never gone a day without watching a show. I watch across all genres—no blind spots—and I regularly post reviews. My friends often come to me for recommendations. So far, I’ve completely finished 307 TV series (only counting those with more than one season—shows I dropped after a few episodes aren’t included). The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Supernatural all share the same fundamental flaw: they’re CW shows. This also applies to everything in the Arrowverse. These series usually start out really strong—great production value, creative storylines, and a lot of promise. But as time goes on, they fall into a repetitive loop. The dialogue becomes recycled, character dilemmas feel the same, and the challenges they face start to feel like remakes of previous seasons. I’ve watched over 20 CW shows, and honestly, none of them manage to stay consistently good beyond Season 4. And I don’t just mean a minor dip—I'm talking about a massive drop in quality. So whether or not you plan to make reaction videos, I’d recommend managing expectations going in. The Vampire Diaries: I think Ron will probably enjoy Seasons 1 though 4, but unless he has a lot of time, he’ll likely want to drop it around Seasons 5. That’s not to say the later seasons are completely unwatchable, but there are certainly better options out there. I also feel that for someone to truly love this show, they’d need to be a big fan of romance as a core theme—which I don’t think is something Ron prioritizes when choosing a show. The Originals: This one also starts out great but runs out of steam. Aside from the vampire lore, other supernatural elements don’t really shine. What I mean is, when you see that the show has some really cool elements, you start to expect better development—like more intense confrontations with vampires or some epic battles—but I think the show ends up being disappointing in that regard. Once the stories of each Original family member are told, there isn’t much left to look forward to, and the problems they face become increasingly repetitive. Bonus Mention – Legacies (a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals): While Legacies does feel juvenile at times due to the teenage cast, I’d actually rate it on par with The Originals. It does a better job showcasing supernatural elements beyond vampires, and it has some truly memorable characters. Supernatural: The early seasons are still very watchable even in 2025. I’m personally not into horror at all, but this show kept me hooked for 15 years. Yes, it also suffers from repetitive storylines in later seasons, but the number of high-quality episodes early on is much higher than most other shows. Also, in terms of fight scenes, it’s more engaging overall. The Umbrella Academy: In my opinion, this one deserves the highest praise of the bunch—though I know that’s a bit controversial. The earlier three shows have more seasons and a longer runtime, which helps build fan loyalty over time. But looking at things objectively, I think The Umbrella Academy has more plot twists, unexpected storylines, and a unique structure. Even though it's a superhero show, the powers aren’t the core focus. It blends a lot of old tropes into something that still feels fresh and original, which I think is a major strength. It also has moments that are genuinely emotional and impressively cool.
