Formal Coat Design・正式な上着設計

Lately, I've been thinking a bit about a coat design for the KYTHERA crew that'd fit their suit, but not look too authoritarian, as they're not a military unit or group. It's just Jilly who has extensive combat experience and her herd of K4RNs who can barely survive on their own.

Of course, the classic orange, black and white lines would have to be incorporated, but silly me started out with the design of the coat, instead of the design of the suit as a base. You can see the first two design studies in the rightmost images, with the front/lead image being as close to a final design as I can present.

The initial design was a long coat, because I thought that'd just look the part and intimidating. However, you also need to look at the practical use in a setting as KYTHERA. It may work in open spaces, but in tighter confines and potentially dangerous situations where Jilly requires agility, this coat will be an absolute hindrance. So, I decided to go for a shorter design. It also looks more sporty, which leans well into Jilly's character (reminder to draw workout pics).

After some attempts, I came to the conclusion the coat also needs to be smooth, like the general suits in the KYTHERAverse. Having deep crevices in clothes can harbour dirt, chemicals and all other sorts of nasty particles you don't want to bring onto your own vessel. As a final touch, I've added a sash to the waist high belt, because you can attach things to it and it just looks friggin cool.

After this, my plan is to develop a sort of general insignia system that can be understood throughout the societies of the KYTHERAverse and slowly restart the comic again.

最近、KYTHERA団のコート (上着)のデザインを少し考えていました。キャットスーツにマッチしつつも、あまり権威主義的に見えないようなデザインを作ってみたかった。軍隊やグループではないからですね。豊富な戦闘経験を持つジリー船長と、自力ではほとんど生き延びられないK4RNの群れがいるだけです。

デザインにはもちろん、定番のオレンジ黒白塗装のは取り入れなければなりませんが、私はスーツのデザインではなく、コートのデザインから着手してしまいました。最初の2枚目のデザインスタディは右端の画像でご覧いただけます。正面/リード画像は、私が提示できる限りの最終デザインに近いものです。

最初のデザインはロングコートでした。見た目が威圧的すぎると思ったからです。しかし、KYTHERAのような設定での実用性も考慮する必要があります。広い空間では使えるかもしれませんが、ジリーが機敏さを求められるような、狭い空間や危険な状況では、このコートは完全に足手まといになるでしょう。 ということで、丈を短くすることにしました。スポーティな印象になり、ジリーのキャラクターにもよく合います（ワークアウト中の絵を描くのを忘れずに）。

何度か試した結果、コートもKYTHERAの世界の一般的なスーツのように滑らかに仕上げる必要があるという結論に至りました。服に深い隙間があると、汚れや化学物質、その他船内に持ち込みたくない様々な厄介な粒子が溜まってしまうからです。仕上げに、腰までの高さのベルトにサッシュを付けました。何かを付けられる上に、見た目も最高にクールです。

その後は、KYTHERAの世界の社会全体で共通する一種の記章システムを開発し、ゆっくりとコミックを再開していく予定です。
