2024-08-22 19:28:33 +0000 UTCMost of season 6 is actually ahead of the books as well. I don't think HBO was pressuring the showrunners to finish up quickly. If anything it was one of the most popular shows they had ever had, I'm sure they would have loved to milk it for as many seasons as they could. It was moreso the showrunners had gotten tired of working on it, and wanted to work on other projects so they agreed to wrap it up sooner than most would have liked. They also didn't want to hand it off to anybody else to finish the story. The quality suffered as a result.

Rhaegar was not King but the son of King Aegon (The Mad King)...older brother to Dany (although of course they never met as Dany was snuck out of Kings Landing as a baby during the rebelliion) Rhaegar is the one Barriston Selmy is talking about who liked to walk about the people and sing and described him as a kind person who hated killing and loved singing Meanwhile..he is also the same person who the stories tell (and Sansa referenced) about him kindnapping Lyana Stark and raping and killing her Make of the conflicting stories as you will RIP Barriston this episode... Pretty big change from the books.. he is still alive and kicking as we await Book 6 (George RR taking his sweet ass time)
