You probably know by now but they didn't change the lore they just expanded on it. The power of the element, or the ability to bend is given by the lion turtles. The dragons, moon, badger moles, and sky bison taught humans how to properly use it. This is why you see Wan learning how to use fire bending with the dragon. After proper training the people realized that Wan was not just a "fire tosser" but that he used fire as an extension of his body. "The way Wan moves fire, it’s like nothing I have ever seen, he uses it like it’s an extension of his body." Think about it like this anyone can throw a punch but that doesn't automatically make you a martial artist you would need a proper teacher. Also great reactions!

Tenzin is maybe my favorite character in the show, and we really start to see some more of his personal growth this season. Can't wait for you to witness more of it!
