2023-03-30 05:15:10 +0000 UTCObi Wan came back in both follow up movies and he wasn't a main character. He was a supportive character. The main characters were Han, Luke and Leia. And what I mentioned was exactly the reason why he rejected Harrison Ford's suggestion of killing Han. "Killing" ObiWan made sense, because the old mentor can't be around if the young hero is supposed to grow on his own without someone holding his hand any longer. But Obi Wan stuck around as a mentor. he just needed to die just enough so he could no longer be the hero himself. That's the same thing that happened to Gandalf. He wasn't fully gone either, but enough so the younger heroes had to grow into the role on their own. That is not the case here. Tech is part of the main cast, and he's not making room for anyone. If Tech died here (which I don't tinkhe did), then it was done for cheap effect, which is indeed a bad writing trope. And George is not the first writer to say so. There are numerous very well known writers, who have over the decades and centuries said that writers kill off main characters if they don't have the skill to produce emotion in another way.

2023-03-29 23:50:18 +0000 UTCHere's my 2 cents on this: a) If Tech is dead I agree with George Lucas on that one: Killing main characters is the cheapest writing move you can make. It would also be very damaging to the show.This is a kids show, and Tech was intentionally the nerdy, awkward, somewhat autistic maybe but definitely socially awkward guy that so many kids can easily identify with. Losing him would damage the show as a kids show immensely. b) I don't think that's what they did. First of all Filoni knows how to make kids shows, so he's aware of this. But also Filoni is not subtle. He's VERY on the nose. We 'lost' Echo temporarily to make the kids ready for feeling a sense of loss. He also foreshadowed basically everything. They said Syd was going to betray them way it advance, they made it clear that Omega was going to be kidnapped way in advance and tons of other things. He's not subtle about these things. Showing Tech's glasses makes it incredibly unlikely that Tech is dead, unless Filoni has completely changed his style of storytelling. Since he's also a Lord of the Rings fan, to me this is the equivalent of showing the Mithril shirt as proof of Frodo's death. There is NO reason to show the glasses unless Tech is still alive. Filoni doesn't do that sort of thing unless it is on-the-nose messaging about a character. I think FIloni knows that Tech is an important character for kids in the show, and I think Filoni doesn't show glasses if a character is truly dead. Imagine what that would do to a glasses wearing awkward kid that identified 100% with Tech. Would you show that kid "here are your damaged glasses, your hero is gone"? Filoni knows better

2023-03-29 22:36:28 +0000 UTCI feel like Plan 99 is something along the lines of sacrifice yourself to try to save your brothers like Clone 99 did during the Battle of Kamino. I had a sick feeling it was going to be Tech. But it was still heart wrenching to watch.
