I'm commenting while I'm watching, the earth bending kid is supposed to be Haru, that part of the movie is the prison episode in season one where Katara pretends to be an earth bender to get arrested and the gaang breaks out Haru and his dad. A major difference being that in the show the prison was a metal ship. which made sense since the earth benders have no power there. the movie's "prison" is a camp...surrounded by earth, just another change this movie made that makes absolutely no sense at all. And toph wouldnt come in until the "second movie" haha

Also not sure if anyone has said this, but the irony of this movie is that the Ember Island Players was a more accurate retelling of the story. And at the end of that episode, what the characters say about the play perfectly applies to this movie lmao.

One thing that really bothers me about this film is the race-bending. I hate how they whitewashed the main characters and changed the race of the entire firenation. The orginal show had such amazing themeing with each nation based on specific cultures.

u missed it , he did drink tea when zuko was training on the ship

I think the most egregious thing about this movie is the writing and the pacing. These actors did what they could with what they had - which is to say shit. The dialogue is absolutely terrible - and they put it way too much unnecessary exposition. I will admit that many of the visuals are pretty good, and the designs for the Fire Nation are pretty damn spot on. I just can't get past the horrible direction and writing, totally falls short of the show by miles. I just hope the Netflix show does a better job. At the very least the casting is pretty solid, unlike most of this movie.

There were some legit un-terrible moments, and I think Appa and Momo looked about as good as you could have hoped for in 2010. It wasn't enough to save it though

Kyle Katarn

Oh cool, I thought Yue actually had one of the stronger performances in this. Yeah the pronunciation thing bothers me because it seems so unnecessary!

Kyle Katarn

There were some cringe-tastic moments for SURE! I winced inside at almost every name

There was a lot more good in this then I remembered there being, originally HATED it after seeing it originally in theaters. Still real bad though

I think the fact that this movie did some things really well just makes things like the name pronunciation even more disappointing. Also you'll be hearing a lot more of the actress that played Yue, she's one of the lead voices in Legend of Korra!

Aaahh! I've been waiting for this! I love when new avatar fans share the agony that is this adaptation lol. Thanks for suffering for us. Can't wait to chill and watch it with you! :D

Oh no. I've never seen this myself & I think this is as 'good' a chance for me to watch it as any, alongside you. at least I can share in what I believe is very deep levels of cringe. also, looking forward to you starting TLOK!
