I agree that Ryan is vastly under appreciated and is a true living legend, but that park is in no way indicative of how parks "used to be". that was a park course, not a street course. x games and street league and maloof and other contests that were going on back then all had much smaller obstacles for the most part on their street courses. this was just a very unique course for a unique park contest. I mean grant taylor was there, even if you don't remember this contest specifically, seeing GT in it should tell you all you need to know. regardless tho, Ryan was sick and that was probably the last iconic sheckler run we ever got in a contest. sort of like Kobes 60 point walk off game.

The courage and mental aspect of those kind of tricks can be inspiring to watch too, not everything in skateboarding is about relating only to the skill with the board and specific tricks, is also about attitude, mental toughness, ability to take risks and to relentlessly pursue specific goals. You don't need to feel the need to go kickflip off a buiding yourself necessarily, but you can desire to have all this mentioned abilities in a bunch of different areas of your life - and in scaled way down to your own skating, of course.
