Thanks for the support i do appreciate it, there is a video coming up tonight but I get that I haven’t been uploading enough. As far as the streams go I uploaded the SLS stream because that was a special circumstance, I always cover street league publicly. I do feel a responsibility I think about it every day honestly it stresses me out a great deal, I do not live care free I have a lot of anxiety about all of this. I do plan on turning things around this month, I know last month was not great, Jerry flew in the sci fi team to film and I was really focused on trying to skate with them everyday. Excuses excuses I know. Either way thanks for your support and I’m genuinely sorry I haven’t been producing at the rate I should be. I’m tired of making excuses for it I want to do my job properly

I am sorry but I‘ll leave now after almost 2 years, even if I still love what you do, Joa😀 you really earn a good amount every month from your patreons only but do less and less with every month for a while now. I would feel a responsibility tbh. I get that you only want to put out great content every time as you once said but me and many other people here gave you so many simple ideas in terms of content and even told you that not everything has to be a masterpiece. If people pay for content here you should already know that they admire you and your work. And even the streams seem to get public on the clips channel now to get additional income which once was for the patreons… just can’t afford about 2 videos in the last 5 or 6 weeks as a student and I hope for you that others won’t leave too if this continues. "Take a lap" is what a coach yells at some misbehaving team member to make them run as punishment; it would be weird for someone to use it in the context of a victory lap. The phrase also works as slang to acknowledge stupidity, e.g., "I asked Greg to pass the salt, which was right in front of him, but he overlooked it and asked where it was. Stupid as hell, he needs to take a lap." In the context of this video part, stupid gets the slang treatment as well, which inverts the normal usage, e.g., "Bruh did you see that killer Mason part? He went stupid!" "Seriously man, he needs to take a lap!" TL;DR: The title is Mason joking about how stupid he went, so stupid he should take a lap, but the fact that we have to explain the joke means it wasn't a good one.

It may have been called 'Introducing Mason Silva' (http://elpatin.com/element-introducing-mason-silva/), but it's not clear to me. I remember it from when it was initially released, but it seems like it's one of those things that's just gone now.

God, I love part reviews. Hearing someone knowledgable and passionate break down fits, filming, and especially the minutiae of lines and trick selection and their relation to spots is so intensely satisfying. Have you ever thought about reviewing interesting and/or notable parts from the past, Joa? I get the feeling you're more interested in what's happening in the current moment, but you also sometimes mention being stuck for ideas for videos... As for the music, I wondered at first if it was some kind of reference to Here Come the Warm Jets at the beginning of Dennis Busenitz's Since Day One part—Real skaters who skate super fast to Eno being the link or something? But yeah, it doesn't work over the entirety of the part (in Busenitz's part they switched it up after a minute and a half). The gentle tempo and sentiment are a drag on the images of Mason skating super fast. If they wanted to go against expectations, just throwing Music for Airports on there would have been a way harder choice. (I'm kind of kidding there...but now I actually want to see some fully ambient music paired with really aggro skating.)

I don't think the title has anything to do with him being a soty. "Take a lap" can be used interchangeably in a situation where one might say "take a hike" and like someone else mentioned, you'll especially hear it among folks that grew up playing footbal/sports. I think the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but that's just my best guess. Also totally agree the song was not it for the part, but to each his own I guess. Lastly, also agree about the last two clips. I think the wall stall thing was fucking wild, but also we've all seen that trick like a million times in bowls and parks, etc where someone airs out and does that sexy wallride/wall stall pop back in thing and it's cool as fuck every time, but not like mind blowing. The clipper trick was imo pretty fuggin mind blowing and besides it being a super gnarly NBD at clipper, I can't specifically recall seeing it ever, so that kind of speaks the rarity/difficulty of the trick. In short, definitely agree the last two probably should've been switched, but all in all incredible part. Masoncells stay winning

I think this works because of the amount of banks/bumps/transition spots Mason skated here. The floating quality of the melody and the keys complements the tricks being done, while the overall vibe of the song contrasts with the skater’s style.

The Brian Eno project this song is from, Another Green World, is a cult favorite and an incredibly innovative project featuring some of the era’s best musicians (for example Phil Collins played the drums). This is one of a handful of the project’s tracks that has vocals, and in the context of the album it’s a joyous interlude between some really atmospheric instrumental tracks. I was thrilled when I heard the lilting riff come on over that opening rollercoaster line. I feel the song adds some levity to the part and is juxtaposed nicely to Mason’s deliberate and unrelenting style (I mean that in a positive way). That said, I can understand how the song could sound totally ridiculous on first listen.

I can understand why the wallride clip was the closer. One, it was huge. Looked like he was about 10-12 feet off the ground. Two, the wall looked fairly recessed, like a foot or more. In a way it was like a gap to wallride. He had to really pop to get out.

Whoever edited the video might have felt that it was cliche to end a part with a Clipper banger. So many people do it, but no one cares, we want more Clipper slop. (no double flip bullshit tho) He also skated the last spot in a way no one else had, nearly every trick at Clipper is a grind or slide on the hubba.

Wall crawl was an odd choice for the ender, I know he does a lot of wallride tricks but I feel like its always good to have an ender that is an extreme version of what we have come to know of the skaters trick selection. For mason I would expect a massive ollie or something on a huge spot with a lot of speed, I relate it to when some bowl guys have a full part of transition clips and then save the one handrail trick for the ender, it gives me the feeling of lack of consistency and then youre waiting for another trick in their specialized format. This was a great and very in-depth review btw, love you daddy!
