I don’t think thrasher will disappear in our lifetime but I think it will more and more delve into the berrics side of things, like a noob trap that introduces people to skating but is far from the true core experience if that makes sense. Maybe it already is that way. I can only tell from mine and my friends relationship to these outlets.

That would at least give my viewers something else to engage with, because like you said there’s unrealistic and unfair pressure on them as the only media that gives any kind of end of year award.

Thrasher isn't the National Skateboarding Association. They're a magazine and website, a production company (more like Sports Illustrated). It's not their job to be unbiased, and fairness also isn't part of the equation. This phenomenon in skateboarding gets more eyes on skateboarding in December, sparks debate, and helps us define and decide for ourselves who we like based on who they're compared to. Isn't that a good thing? Sometimes skate content can simply excite and frustrate you; it doesn't have to be a conspiracy theory every time. There are other websites and (thankfully now) even other print publications. People miss Phelps because he took a hard, often unpopular stance. Even if we could prove who did the most the bestest each year, would we really want to see the gnarliest skater up on the podium?
