Callisto 0.3 - Week 3 Update

Hit a couple of snags this week related to the station animations. As such had to re-render these animations as a result of the following:

- Pleiades station - messed up animation of one of the emissive light sources.

- Orion station - the rotation rate of the station rings was too high.

- Beehive station - weird rendering effect from using emissive cylinders to light scene. Rendered fast, however lighting fluctuated from frame to frame giving a strobe light effect.

These have all been rectified now and included in the game.


Salvaging Mechanic (100%):

All complete including a little negotiating game when selling items at the junkyard.


Junkyard (90%):

Just the scripting / dialogue to do for a little event, Will likely complete later today.


Station Animations (100%):

Complete and within game. When I changed the Beehive Station render back to the standard asset lighting, the convergence rate dramatically dropped. Hence the 50 iterations I used on the render didn't really give it time to converge sufficiently. Have still included the animation in the current game, however will likely re-render later when my GPU has some idle time available.


0.2 Content (40%):

Redid the opening scene and added another navigation screen to alleviate the issue with people not realising that there was a ship to explore. Still have to review all of the other scenes to see whether I can make them a little more interactive / interesting.


Beta Version:

Planning on releasing a beta version to $10 Patrons later this weekend. Whilst there is minimal additional story line content, it does include the following:

- New fast travel interface

- New hint system

- Salvaging mechanic

- Station animations

These represent the largest coding challenges, hence the highest chance for a bug. By getting it out early, it will allow plenty of time for people to test.


New Content:

Started on the additional story line content / character content for 0.3 as can be seen by the couple of images above for Kara's backstory. Essentially for the next 5 weeks, there are no real game mechanics to work on, so it's all story / character interaction.


Next Week:

- Complete Kara backstory - Part 1 of 3 (part 2 in 0.4 and part 3 in 0.5).

- The first phase in the Liberation of Dione main storyline. (there are 3 phases in 0.3).

- May start on a couple of the lewd animations to create an extensive render queue.
