i briefly talked about this in a podcast i did recently. for a while "life" was my dedicated emo project in which i would apply all the emo/screamo related music i made. then in 2025 i started making way too many albums, i say "too many" because while i love nothing more than writing songs (and lots of them) i also like the idea of a [screamo] project having a short discography; especially if that band plays live. one reason is it makes it infinitely easier to decide what songs to play and for the audience to even recognize the setlist and participate. another reason is it makes it infinitely easier to teach people the songs so that we can even play them to begin with (and then we can dedicate more practice time to those selected songs and become better at performing them). another reason is i don't have to feel sad when i write more songs than i can realistically expect to be able to perform because obviously every time i write new music i am excited to be able to play it live. another reason is that it just simply feels neatly iconic and concise when a band has a short discography, and something about it and that it's typical in the genre is really cool im not sure how to explain why. in june when i recorded that trilogy of albums, i fully intended those to be the last life songs i would release for these exact reasons, but then that didn't last long and i started recording demo 11 and 12 and then all those split songs. im actually going to slow down much more and not write any new life songs for a while, if at all. after i released those june albums i decided to start letters to you also because the style of screamo i wanted to make was much different than anything life had ever done. at this point "life" feels like a huge mess of different styles across its whole discography; even though all of it is emo in some way, it crosses over way too much into all the different flavors of screamo that it feels really inconsistent to me. it's cool to make so many songs but i also like it when a band's discography has a consistent sound. that's also why i decided to make letterstoyou, a divergent branch of my screamo music that is ONLY the emoviolence/abrasive/fast flavor of emo. the other emo music i make (softer, more melodic, clean vocals) will be a revival of my old project "i will always remember" (new music being written btw...). interestingly, "life" was originally born in this same way, a divergent branch of my music from sadness that was only dedicated emo music and not any "blackgaze" or whatever; and now the branches diverge further. and it's all for the sake of having a consistent sound within one project (and since life is not a performing live band, making it much easier to be able to actually perform songs live).
