How to comic when you can't.

Hello lovely Patrons.

I posted a little while back with the portrait I did of George Floyd but I knew I wanted to make this month's Patrons-only comic on the subject of the The Black Lives Matter movement as well. At first I just did a ton of frantic research because I felt so under informed (I was) and like there was nothing I could do (there was).

I've since started adding some regular comics back into my social media feeds, along with sharing and amplifying content from BIPOC creators. It's been helpful but it also makes me very mindful that I need to keep educating myself and actively seeking out ways to work against systemic racism. What an incredible privilege it is to be able spend time and effort doing that work.

I've also found it helpful to make donations and deliberately support black owned businesses. The afrobiz.ca site is a good spot to locate businesses you can support in your area if you're curious. There are also a ton of amazing organizations out there. I picked The George Floyd Memorial Fund   The Bail Project both of which are still open, and the Toronto Protestor Bail Fund (now closed). I've also found From Privilege to Progress  and Until Freedom great resources over on Instagram.

I've only just started my work to be a better ally and like everything that's on my mind, my first instinct was to try to process it as a comic and share it. There is so much work still to do and I am so very lucky to be able to do it.

Thank you Patrons, for making this little a community a place where I can share my thoughts and process the things I'm still working through and working on.

You're wonderful.

B
