The light was unfairly beautiful this morning.
Soft and golden, slipping through half-closed blinds in ribbons, tracing lazy paths across the sheets. It painted him first โ jawline glowing, lashes casting delicate shadows, one arm slung across my waist like heโd claimed it in his sleep.
And maybeโฆ he had.
I didnโt move. Not right away.
I liked the way he looked when he was still โ when his usual fire gave way to something slower, quieter, just for me.
Iโd never been a morning person. Too many years of guarding myself, of not letting anyone get close enough to see what โmorning Megโ even looked like. But nowโฆ here I was.
No armor.
No sharp one-liners.
Just a tank top hanging loose on one shoulder, tangled hair, and his fingertips gently brushing the curve of my hip as he started to stir.
โMmmโฆ youโre awake,โ he mumbled, voice all gravel and warmth.
I stretched slightly, pretending to be casual even as my heart gave a little jump. โYou talk in your sleep,โ I teased.
โDid I say something scandalous?โ
I rolled onto my side, propping myself up on one elbow, letting the sheet fall just enough. โYou said my name. Real soft.โ
His eyes opened. Sleepy, warm, locked on mine. โWell. Youโre kind of unforgettable.โ
There it was โ the tug in my chest. That damned tenderness I always tried to shrug off.
But this morning, I didnโt.
Instead, I leaned in, kissed the corner of his mouth, slow and easy. He pulled me closer, hands sliding over my waist like he was memorizing every inch of bare skin the blanket didnโt cover.
We didnโt rush.
We didnโt need to.
Fingers trailed, lips brushed, breaths tangled โ a dance we both knew by now, but one that felt brand new in this golden hour.
He whispered something against my neck โ something low and full of want โ and I smiled, wrapping my leg over his and pulling him in.
Soft can be powerful, too.
And this morning, I was letting him have every part of me.
No shields.
No distance.
Just Meg โ warm, open, and all his.
