Lord Toronaga is clearly the smartest guy in any room, and even the Anjin is smart enough not to lie to Toronaga. Toronaga appreciates Mariko-Sama's intelligence and honesty to begin with but is ALWAYS testing everyone to see if they are telling the truth at the moment.
