Hauntology, Lost Futures and 80s Nostalgia (VHS Format)

I recently got a CRT TV with an in-built VHS player, both to be able to watch VHS tapes and to be able to record them. While thinking of potential ways to use this technology I realized it would be extremely appropriate to re-release my video on hauntology in VHS format, making it doubly hauntological. Not only is it aesthetically and thematically appropriate, it's also an encouragement for everyone to watch this video 6 years after its original release, and to consider how much of it is still relevant, how much things have changed, and how we relate to the recent past. It's interesting to consider, for instance, how 80s nostalgia is itself now going out of style, increasingly replaced by Y2K nostalgia.

If you have any other requests or suggestions regarding how I could use VHS technology for my content, let me know. Thanks, everyone!

i don’t know where to send this, but i recently read Jon Greenway’s Capitalism: A Horror Story and think you’d do a great video essay on the concept of Capitalist Horror. love your work. cheers!

Very Haunted Stuff

Temporarily Embarrassed Deleuzeanaire

The only thing "dated" in this video is it's references to 80's references. "Ready Player One" feels dated. Especially when we just got the "Fallout" TV show. (See the latest "The Back Drop" for it's retrofuture analysis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz-Mq6gkZwM ) At the same time just this weekend, Taylor Swift just released an album partially produced by Jack Antanoff, a music producer who has made his career in imitating 80's music. What is odd this time the Jack Antanoff 80's retro sound is the weak part of the album. Is 80's nostalgia finally dying? This is not the only time today I have heard that it is. Another blogger (don't recall who, sorry) seems to indicate it is being replaced by '00s nostalgia, as millenials replace Gen X in culture dominance. Just more hauntology I guess.
