I'm currently halfway through editing my 3rd video on the German revolution, and this is a movie you can occupy yourself with while waiting. It's an East German movie that I've used a lot of clips from for my German revolution videos. Since it's quite obscure and hard to find, I thought I'd do my patrons a favor and upload it on our Google drive. English subtitles are hardcoded in.
The movie centers on Karl Liebknecht's role in the German revolution, covering the November revolution, Bloody Christmas, the January uprising of 1919, and ending with his death. Though I'm no big fan of the former East German state, the fact that it made it possible for the German revolution to be recreated on-screen on such a large budget is one commendable thing about it. It's a rare pleasure to see revolutionary events recreated on such a scale. Its budget allowed it to show the masses of people on the streets, at the council elections, as well as in armed battles. It showcases both some of the real places that these events took place in, and some of the weapons that were used in the fighting, from artillery weapons to tanks.
The movie's title means "Despite it all!", which was the name of the last article Liebknecht wrote before his death, and since then has become a slogan among German communists.
It's a historical movie that in itself can serve as a partial introduction to the German revolution in Berlin, and so deserves more attention in my opinion. I'd love to hear what you think if you end up watching it!
