July production diary: Me Dooming/Me Blooming

Plant care and a little catch-up :)

TLDR (TIME LILY DOES REVIEWS)

I come to you with recommendations for a beautiful game, album, and webcomic. In order from most to least... whimsical, I guess?

Game: Formless Star. You're a researcher cataloguing the species that populate the surface of an ever-changing star. It's like Pokemon without combat: you just walk around and take notes on delightful, unique little creatures. It's lovingly rendered in SNES-style pixel art, and only takes a couple hours to finish.

Album: "Bite Down" by Ribbon Skirt. Montreal-based art rock band taking the country by storm with this debut that's very reminiscent of Japanese Breakfast and Wednesday. Fully danceable decolonial bangers, alternating climate-rage and climate-grief, crickets chirping through it all. Perfect for the hottest summer on record.

Comic: Drop-Out. Two girlfriends take a long road trip to throw themselves into the Grand Canyon. On the way, they talk about their lives to this point, and mull over what this decision would mean. As heavy as it gets, but if you've been there (suicidality, not the Grand Canyon) the comic's unflinching honesty and empathy will stand out to you.

Drop-out is so good! I’m glad you wrote about it, it’s hard to find stories that treat mental illness with the nuance it deserves.
