Guess what! I did some coding!
I decided, with a huge amount of the art assets under my belt, it was finally time to begin trying to code this thing into some semblance of functionality. I decided gamemaker studio 2 seemed like a reasonable platform to use, and while i was a little intimidated at first, i ended up enjoying the process a lot! it's still early days but i got the first draft of some pretty vital systems up and running, as you can see below.

Here I am generating some of the 45 gems on click, the gems each have various curse values attached to them, and the portrait changes and combines when the curse values reach certain thresholds.
Of course, in the final version gem generation won't be quite so straight forward as a click, but you get the idea. This is also only the most common curses, rare curses have also been implemented, of which i will spoil a few but not too many.

I can't remember the exact number, but not including the opening curses there are something like 50+ unique curses so far, some are compounds of multiple curse effects, some are rare curse effects taken over a threshold, and some are hidden altogether >:3c.
Seeing as i really had no idea how coding would go at all, i'm pretty happy with where i've gotten to! there is still a lot to do, such as getting the weapons, ship parts and gem illustrations all displaying, coding the more advanced gem generation and inventory interaction, and of course getting all the text in just to name a few, but i'm pretty confident i can get an initial draft/alpha down in the coming months.
What else have I been up to?
Coding is remarkably consuming, so there might be a little less visual material here then usual, still , i've been doing some more illustrations for the collaboration with patrick, as well as getting back into my mockup project, onlyfiends, as something to take a break on and pixel while i was being consumed by code

Okay, whew, well after all of that my plan next is to sit back and take a month to focus on some design questions, as well working on some secondary projects like onlyfiends before doing another big push in june to get cursed gems to a full first draft playable state.
That about wraps up april, oh and also, it was my 32nd birthday! here i am on my birthday night! :3c
