Eating Alone...is Weird?
Added 2022-11-18 03:12:51 +0000 UTCIt never struck me that eating alone could be a weird thing until I had some friends bring it up to me at one point, but also I don't blame people who think eating alone is strange. Eating out at restaurants does tend to be more of a social event, but I'm sure many people who are from big cities can relate to just needing to stop for quick bite and heading back out. However, I still do have many times where I just enjoy the feeling of fully indulging in my senses, alone. I like to just observe my surroundings, take my time, eat food unapologetically, and just enjoy time by myself. Society definitely shaped this narrative about pitying the one person eating alone in a restaurant (trust me, I've had my moments as well when it came to seeing an elderly person eating alone 😭), but just thinking about how I personally feel at peace in these situations reminds me that others can feel that way too. I also had awkward moments of running into friends while eating alone, and ensured them that they don't need to spend time with me just because we were in the same physical place. I'm workin' on being my own friend, and this is just one of the ways I do it! 😋🍜
