I hate making changes to billing, but since the project launched, almost two years ago, a certain type of patron has been stealing rewards.
This type of patron will pledge enough to download the latest version of the game or to take part in the polls and then delete their pledge before they can be billed.
You might call them a thief or a pirate.
This is unfair to honest patrons and it makes it very difficult for me to predict what my monthly income will be. This in turn makes it difficult to hire contractors and manage other costs associated with the project.
It doesn't effect me so much as I have a full time job to pay the bills, but it does mean that I cannot reduce my full time working hours to spend more time working on the game if I cannot be certain I can cover the mortgage.
New Patrons
New Patrons will be charged on the day they become a patron, giving them access to all content shared with their reward tier. On the 1st of the following month, they will simply return to being charged monthly at the beginning of the month.
Example: A patron joins your Patreon community on March 25th for $10 per month. They will be charged $10 on the day they join, March 25th, for March patronage. On April 1st, the Patron will be charged $10 for April patronage.
Existing Patrons
Existing patrons will be charged on the 1st of the month like usual. However, if you increase or decrease your pledge the month you switch to charge up front, you will be billed immediately in full.
Objections?
I honestly feel this is the best for project and is fair to everybody.
Unless I get a huge response from the community this will take effect in April 2019.
Until next time, hunters.
