Blog Post from May 22nd, 2021: Work in Progress
Added 2021-05-31 00:40:54 +0000 UTCI started writing this post on May 11th, and soon after I began, I noticed an email came through from the Animal Foundation. I immediately opened it and my heart sank after reading the first sentence, “After review of our schedule and business needs we will not be moving forward with our job offer at this time.”
I started to compose an email back to the supervisor to inform her of my disappointment and inquire if we could further discuss scheduling.
I had three interviews, one by phone, and two by Google Meet, before they invited me to the campus on the 11th. After a quick tour of the campus in their department, it appeared that they wanted to offer me the job, but I asked about dates when I might need the weekends off and when I had doctor or other appointments. I told the two supervisors that sometimes my gym hosts events that I usually volunteer at, like the weekend coming up where Camp Rhino hosted the DEKA Strong competition.
Their scheduling is four tens, four ten-hour shifts a week. I asked that if I needed a weekend off, if I could work two half days, and three full days. I told them which days I preferred to work, but after leaving the campus, I texted the supervisor back and notified her that if it worked better for them, I gave adjustments to what I had already told them. I didn’t want to lose the job just because of scheduling.
