Offline version poll

As you've probably noticed, offline version releases are quite sporadic. Offline version has its ups and downs, so we've decided to put it up for a vote.

Pros:

Cons:

So, here's the poll. If you think we should release an offline version on a regular basis, we'll try to stick to the schedule.

Comments

I was playing the offline version and decided to become a $5 patron. When I installed the latest version of the game my offline progress was not available to load. Is there a way to load that progress, so I don't have to replay the grind it took to get to where she was. The grind is the worst thing about your game. I suppose I can do that if I must but I really don't want to.

So what happens now? Do we go yet another month without an offline release or are you actually going to release something this month?

Daku

16th day came about no content so only pledging a $1 At this stage not worth my $10

He can wait to release offline updates two months later. If I'm paying anything don't want any none paid getting rewarded soon after I do

gamersglory

While I agree with you DS hates nothing more than people finding a way to mod his games.

Daku

That's a great idea if you want to people with bad internet reliant on offline versions of the game to stop pledging.

'No Automatic Updates' - Lets be real here... By the end of the month any bugs that are going to be patched will have been patched, anything left by that point will have been abandoned to be fixed in the next update. 'Piracy' - Ok let me be honest, I feel I am wasting my money every month BECAUSE we don't get an offline version, I have bad internet so updating the game is hard and playing it is even worse. v0.10 was patch since v0.1 that has even remotely worked for me. So what if people are able to take that game and share it around, its the perfect opportunity for new people to find out about the game. Ask the majority of people here and they will say they found BB or Glamour from a site like that.

Daku

v0.10 is the only offline version of the game DS has released recently. (I think 0.1 and 0.2 might also have been offline versions). Anything else you download would be using the Glamour Client which: a) connects to the internet when its opened, updating the game if applicable. b) activly stops you from playing if you havn't connected to the internet. c) checks with the server after every action which has been known to cause a lot of lag.

Daku

I'll make this simple, all the pros that are listed are of large importance to me and all the cons applicable are of little to no concern. If you expect me to shell out $5 every month then I expect an offline version and I expect it on the month its online version gets released. If you choose either option 2 or 3 then I have two simple answers to your decision. Option 2 - I pay $1 every month and just download it from a pirate website, I'm not paying $5 a month to get a old patch... Option 3 - I stop backing the project in its entirety and I wait until someone finds a way to pirate the game... I'm on this parteon because I wan't to support the game, so stop punishing those of us that want to support you by using things like always online DRM...

Daku

In my opinion, it's always nice to have a backup, if when ever the internet has issues, I want to keep the offline version available.

Bobbo69

online version isnt appropriate for korean internet circumstances right now. i spent about 5 hours for 35% loading.

I heard of BB/Glamour from F95 like most patreon games I've pledged to :P I wouldn't be shocked if something like 90% of the supporters say the same.

Читаю ветку и такое впечатление, что на суде сижу, где прокуроры с адвокатами спорят, пытаясь влиять на суд присяжных... Наружу вылазят разнообразные способы забалтывания, софистики с словесной эквилибристики... против логики и диалектики.

A single player game should never, ever, ever, ever, ever be online only. Also DRM has proven to not work against piracy for many years now. Hell, you should see pirated games as publicity. Actually you should do a poll to ask us where we first heard about BB/Glamour.

I prefer offline games because you can have MOD on them to like get extra money for game instead of repeating same process many times to earn money.

Silly question, but how do people play online? I mean I only found the offline version, atlhough I had to restart game like ten times not to get stucked while updating to v0.12

I know it's sad for the supporters who just want the offline version. But glamor was a long time. Only to have online.

I proposed long ago to post the offline version as a public version 2 months after $ 5 update. So everyone can use it (for free). It is also good for advertising because every month an update comes.

lukumo

Honestly if there was an option I'd vote for no ONLINE version. The online version is so incredibly slow compared to offline version. 'No automatic updates. Online version can be easily patched, players don't have to do anything.' and 'The entire game needs to be redownloaded every month, takes some time and traffic.' can be somewhat fixed by implementing a separate client patcher that incrementally updates the offline game as each version is released. 'Piracy. Some people feel they waste money for nothing when other people get the same game for free.' Could be done via the patcher as well though honestly if someone wants to hack your game they're going to hack your game and considering all the exclusively online games that've been downloaded, hacked, and unlocked? Putting the game online doesn't really change that. If someone wants to pirate, they're going to find a way to do so.

Lukumo I usually agree with you on most things, but I can’t here, the manipulation of game saves that others do by means of piracy doesn’t really effect your personal saves, as long as you don’t copy these saves yourself. Also the biggest drawback (piracy) is also your greatest advertising tool, without piracy I would never have found BB and supported it.

While I see your logic sometimes the best form of advertising to get supporters IS piracy, I never would have found BB and supported it at maximum tier if I hadn’t found the pirated version first, after playing the pirated version I’ve been in here since BB0.3, so despite what some people say there is an exception to that rule 👍

Cons: 1. The biggest drawback is piracy, if you want to increase the number of cartridges you should. If ever, post the offline version as a public version 2 months after the $ 5 update. 2. Offline game save can be manipulated. Pros: Server problems.

I’m going to analyse the cons of this argument here... 1) No Automatic Updates - by the time the end of the month comes then all bugs are patched by then so it’s only one download for players 2) Downloading Entire Game - that’s a small price to pay for users who suffer from the server lag, it’s a single download compared to having a constant connection to the game. 3) Piracy - the argument here is kinda illogical, people who pay tiers get the game before others anyway, do $10 patrons feel this way about $40 supporters?? I honestly don’t think so. People feel like they paid for nothing argument is also subjective because if you release end of the month then supporters who play online have the game first anyway, plus BB was a highly supported game despite the piracy level. Piracy is always going to happen sadly and the way to combat this is maybe to have exclusive achievements and scenes for supporters, I’m sure some clever tech head can come up with exclusive scenes in the game that unlock when a supporter logs in, it would work much like a passcode or a key that unlocks new scenes, so if the game is pirated then non supporters don’t get all the content that patrons do, if that makes sense like. Or even having a single use patron code that expires once it’s used, this passcode could unlock the extra stuff and each code can only be used once, my point is there are ways to take away the “I pay for nothing argument”. Like I said I’m not really bothered myself but I don’t want to see the game lose supporters over an uninformed decision that could be made here over the next few days, I’m a supporter of this game and would like to see it succeed, that’s why I’ve posted this.

I'm actually finding it super fast, it was instantly loading for me.

ghost556

here are my 2 cents: offline version was born out of poor server performance, this has been fixed for over a month now and it's always snappy, so online is actually helping people with data caps, since you don't need to download the whole game over and over again. It definitely encourages people to quit their Patronage since they can get the game for free, leaving less money for development, or put another way, more Patrones means a better game for all of us. That's why I voted "no offline version". More choice is usually better, but I can see a clear benefit in the Devs focusing on one version.

Troik

Game has unplayable lag online, any release delay is lame, can't keep supporting without offline.

I think the logic of option 2 is just wrong, you can have $40 supporters who pledge EXCLUSIVELY for an offline version of the game, releasing a whole month after $5 patrons get the game is nuts in my opinion, because people pay for an offline version the same as an online version, that would mean anyone who wants to support would get an offline version every other month which means they are paying (technically speaking) twice if they’ve been here a while for a single update. I’ve seen $40 supporters on here who have continued to pay for an offline version that hasn’t been released (Last release was 0.10 I believe)... hey it don’t bother me personally as I play online, I’m just posting this comment for the people who do support for the offline version... I have been informed previously that other pages on here are advertising Glamour on their page and that has to be dealt with yes, but I don’t think supporters should have to suffer because of that, that’s easily solved in the court system or by informing the platform themselves.... I’ve voted that the offline version should st least come the SAME month as people are paying for it, it just seems unfair to me that online users will be a month ahead of those who pay the same amount as many others on here for an offline version.
