Late to your Patreon, but enjoying your reactions to Burn the Stage. Re; the leader role. I'm sure you know by now Namjoon (Rap Monster/RM) was the first recruited to BTS, for his obvious talents. The band was initially meant to be a rap group, etc. so he was assigned the "leader" role. The other members are aware of the heavy burden RM assumes, especially when dealing with Western media as in the early years it was obvious he was the only member who could speak English. The older members picked up their game to help alleviate him of some of that responsibility - RM has spoken extensively of J-Hope's professionalism and how he helps with stage management within the group. Hobi also speaks more English with Western media and communicates about the group's purposes, etc. to the media in general. Suga obviously is a writer/producer and if he's comfortable in an interview situation, you'll notice he can be ebullient with media. Jin doesn't seem demonstrably helpful but he himself just as he is helps all the members with his presence. In the younger members, JK purposefully teaches himself everything (cooking, guitar, English, whatever) and if that helps RapMon, that's great! The most marked difference from debut to now is probably Jimin - he's grown from an angsty teenage boy through an insecure stage (you'll see this in this series) to a now mature grown man with incredible responsibilities (he was project manager for the BE album). I love seeing his natural playfulness in the Run BTS episodes, Bon Voyage ("Is this youth??"), and In the SOOP. He's shown to be a loving, caring friend in key moments in the members' lives that we've been given glimpses to and that shows what a big heart he has.

It's not a culture thing. I think it's just who they are. I am a little older than they are, like you are. I'm sharing the same culture with those guys, but they are just what they are.

The leaders in every KPOP group you've mentioned are just because they're the oldest, not as reliable as RM

Every K-Pop group has their leader, it's the lable decides it. And it's very common thing that the leader introduces him/herself as the leader because it is considered kind of role of the group, such as dancer/singer/rapper. Sorry for my bad english and always thank you for thoughtful reactions:)

I think its because they were in that little apartment in Seoul apart from their parents and had to learn to get along with each other and find purpose in helping each other out and looking out for each other. They didn't have enough to eat what they wanted so they ate together with what they had from working together. You were saying that you don't see that today in American culture and I would beg to differ with you. Yes you do. In today's American military men and women. They find purpose in helping their fellow brother out. If they get hurt they feel like they are letting their team down, they eat together and later help each other to eat together but mostly they are motivated by their fellow soldiers. Not saying that Korean Military isn't the same but I think they use the same formula to train these guys.

After watching so many of your bts reactions on youtube I finally got a patreon account. I really wanted to mention that when I fell down the BTS rabbit hole and became an Army (in 2027), the first strong feeling I got from them was motivation. Something abotu them, their hard work and energy to run after their dreams even with all the obstacles in their way made me wanna get up and work hard for what i believe in and want in my life as well. So I'd say they're definitely a great influence in all those who come across them!

Adding on to your comment about the boys not minding RM stepping up as leader, I think Korean men don't struggle with fragile masculinity complexes that some western men face, which is why they're really comfortable with things like that and it doesn't bother them. Same reason as to why they're comfortable being affectionate with each other whereas some western men may find it awkward :)

Also as much as RM announces his leadership, the other guys announce it more often and louder. They are proud of him and appreciate him and everything he does for the group. It's a mutual friend expect.

With the announcing himself as leader thing, it's more cultural. Even from a young age whenever you are introducing yourself there's kind of a format and it usually includes your role, position and /or group. As a student at school we say Hi, I'm Name of Year, Class, position and that just evolves as you get older. For example at work I say I'm Janshi, organization name's year class homeroom teacher. Except in reality your name comes last.

Roles are a Kpop thing. Every member has a role, whether it be leader, lead dancer, dancer, main vocal, vocal, visual. There is no reason for resentment because all roles need to be filled and serve an integral purpose for the group to function well. In the case of BTS, RM is the only one that could be leader (my opinion) because he was the reason BTS came to be, as the group was to revolve around him. He is the only member to speak English, first member picked...I'm not sure that I'm expressing myself well, but all the members are happy RM is the leader (except maybe RM, lol) because they don't want that responsibility.

You should react to Who is BTS? Seven members of bangtan by Suga & spice on youtube. Also, the song you mentioned was Cypher pt. 4. Please also react to Cypher pt. 1,2,3 and 4 lyrics video on youtube. The wordplay is amazing. SUGA , RM and J-Hope wrote the cyphers as a response to their haters. ITS FIRE 🔥

Yay! This is a great series to watch. You can also watch the Bring the Soul series after this. I really liked that one :D
Oh and, dude, I’ve got over a hundred of their songs on my phone but I’m still finding news ones here and there. That’s why I always tell people to give BTS a chance. They have so many songs in different styles, you’re bound to enjoy some of their work. Hope you have fun discovering new songs. I’m sure if you heed suggestions, people will be more than happy to help you lol.
Pertaining to leadership, RM has said/joked that he’s the leader because he’s originally been in the group the longest. Typically, the oldest member would be assigned the leadership role in a typical kpop group. But BTS ain’t typical lol. Plus, the boys trust him as the leader. There used to be a video on YouTube somewhere called “why rm shines bright as the leader” but I think it’s gone now. And I’m sure BTS fight and there’s some drama, but I’m also sure they deal with all of that together. As they say, BTS is a family.
Oh, and I think the guys of BTS have such a mature point of view on life because of what they’ve experienced together, the people they surround themselves with, and a lot of hard core introspective reflective thinking. I’ve always been an old soul because of all the responsibilities placed on me as a child so I can relate to their way of thinking a lot.
Anyways, sorry for the long comment and I do hope you get concert tickets next week! If you need tips, there’s plenty of people giving advice on YouTube and Twitter 😆👍💜

BTS really are exceptional. I've been an ARMY since 2014 and even after all these years they still amaze and surprise me more and more every day. You just don't see other people like them who are not only super talented, creative, and are amazing artists, but also genuine, kind-hearted and humble people, who have deep mindset and values. And you don't see such friendship, such brotherhood these days - i feel like crying every time i see how genuinely they love each other, how close they are. Seriously it must have been God's work to connect these boys together to create such an exceptional group.
I really enjoy your reactions, and hope to see more! I assure you - the more you watch content about them, and the more you listen to their songs and lyrics, you will be even more amazed :)
Can't wait for ep. 2, and also please react to MMA 2018 and MAMA 2017 performances ^^

I'd say to be careful about putting too much weight on how culture shapes people. Yes, of course we are all to one extent or another affected by the culture we grow up in, that's inescapable. But in my opinion, it's who you are as an individual and how you decide to interact with the culture you grow up in, whether that is to become assimilated to it or break out of it, that’s the most important.
Yes, like a lot of countries in Asia, in a lot of ways Korea is more community-minded, but don't be mistaken. Korea is a hyper-competitive society, just like the US. In schooling and in the work force it's all about competition. And while there are so many great things about being more about the group than the individual, like respect for others, cooperation, compassion etc., there is a dark side as well. Many people are crushed under the weight of the collective and can't express themselves. So imagine, you have to compete and stand out, but within oftentimes rigid social restrictions and expectations. It can be very hard. South Korea doesn’t have one of the highest rates of suicide for nothing.
BTS, in fact, as you know, were some of those people who had to fight against the system to succeed. They had so many people against them for so long and still do. I think Korea, it's culture and the Korean people are so beautiful and amazing and unique with such an interesting and rich history, but don't romanticize it. BTS are their own people and they've worked really hard both as a group and as individuals to grow into the people they are today and it's really a miracle that the seven of them ended up together since they are all such wonderful and special people like you said. Trust me, there is drama in a lot of other K-pop groups where members don't get along or bad things happen in the company, it's just often times they will never show you until a member ends up leaving the group, they disband completely, or the group sues the company because often times in the K-pop industry it's all about the image projected to the public, who can be very harsh and judgmental at times. Not to say there aren't other groups who are genuine and love each other, there is. But I guess I just wrote out this whole thing because I don't think it's good to get too caught up in thinking of all Koreans or K-pop groups in a certain way. Not saying you’re doing that, but it’s something I’ve seen happen to a lot of BTS or K-pop fans, so yeah, just felt like I should share. I really do love your perspective and thoughts on things though and always enjoy your reactions, so thank you if you read this far lol <3

And yes, I agree - it's freakin' bizarre seeing good people being rewarded for their good actions. Hence why the ARMY is so large. It's like seeing a unicorn - you should nurture it - not gun it down.

It's definitely a mixture of culture and personal values that make them this wise and mentally focused. A lot of asian cultures are very communal - they share everything and it's definitely a 'All for one and one for all' type of mentality. The USA's main culture is 'excellence' and 'pushing the frontier' - which really helped shaped America as it is today - but the downside of this is 'hyper-competitiveness' and 'you're on your own' mindset. Koreans are also influence by Confucianism and spirituality in their daily lives. This very much influences how the boys in BTS are so zen.
I've really enjoyed watching this. You'll definitely like the next one.

Ok so, Burn the Stage has around 9 episodes (20-25 min each) and it goes through their 2017 Wings World Tour, you can watch all of the episodes here (https://sung-jaelly-fish.tumblr.com/private/172285829952/tumblr_p5kdbwkzU51v1sapg) if you don't have Youtube Premium. Bring the Soul is another documentary that they released in 2019 and it's about their Love Yourself world tour (2018-2019) and it has 6 longer episodes and it's my favorite yet (you can watch it here https://sung-jaelly-fish.tumblr.com/bring-the-soul-docu-series). I'm glad you're watching these since not many people do, but to me these are the best to get to actually know the members and how they work as a group.

Nice!! Burn the Stage and Bring the Soul are some of my favorite bts content. These two documentaries of both of their world tours are such an incredible deep dive into their lives and thoughts, i love them
