What is SBC Investing / Fodder Investing?

SBC Investing / Fodder Investing means buying cards in advance of an SBC to make a profit from it! It's an EA-based market move and you depend on the content EA releases which is one of the biggest disadvantages already.

Using the Unassigned Pile is also key for this method as it allows you to store as many cards as you want! 

Key Times

Finding the right time to buy fodder is probably the biggest challenge. There are a few patterns you can use and I'm going to explain these below. 

Fodder Low Point

A Fodder low is usually a very good sign for larger investments. Depending on the content plan for EAFC 24, we will see different Fodder movements throughout the year and at some point, it will be easier to analyze and identify a current low for Fodder. You have the advantage that you can buy in bulk and be prepared for everything! 

The biggest downside of this method is the hold time. Sometimes EA doesn’t release appealing SBCs and it can take weeks to see a profit. In general, if you are going on holiday or having some longer inactivity time, this is a solid way to spend your coins and hope for a rising market when you return! (But always message me before you do, I’m happy to talk about long-term investments in DMs or the chats)

Expected Content

The other option is to wait for some information about potential content! This can be through our leaks, public leaks, or some game code. The advantage of this strategy is to know what you are buying and you have a rough idea of when you are aiming to sell it again. Sadly, this is one of the most popular strategies and it usually creates a lot of hype on the market. If you are too late you could miss out on the fodder buys or buy at too high prices without any profit even after the SBC release.

Supply

Throughout the past years, we saw that there are times with less supply on the market but EA continues to release content for the game. That allows fodder to slowly rise and we can use that to our advantage. Buying fodder during times with less supply usually results in profits!

Fodder cards

Every year we have specific cards that are around the fodder prices but still perform better than others. Knowing and understanding these cards is key to making more from your fodder buys. 

There is a small factor of luck as some SBCs could require a different position but in general, it gets easier as we get more SBCs and understand more about them.

Finding the difference between good and bad fodder cards can make 500 coins up to 2.000 per card. That may not sound that much but it can make a difference of 1m+ coins depending on your mass investment. 

In the last few years, this idea has been less relevant for fodder ratings above 84 and more relevant for fodder ratings at 83 or below. It makes more sense to go for the cheapest prices on high-rated fodder than any links due to the changed chemistry system.
