Image Blurb Guidelines

This post is to both explain what the Blurb idea is, and explain the rules behind it.

First, what is an image blurb?

The simplest answer is that someone gives me an image, I look at it, and I write out up to ~360 words of a story blurb that comes to mind while looking over it. Sometimes I get a great idea, sometimes I get a less great one, but I almost always get one. A lot of people find this useful for adding to an image, or using it to brainstorm the start of a story.

As a patreon reward, this is kept as a catalogue for anyone interested. The images themselves are NOT hosted are not hosted in the catalogue; instead, I keep set up so that the story part takes center-stage, and a link to the inspirational image and the artist's gallery is prominently displayed around it. No canon is ever implied, and it is strictly kept as an 'inspired by' list, with all credit to the artist given as possible.

Second, what are the rules?

Format for Submission (on DISCORD ONLY)

Finally, it was brought to my attention that some people may have trouble asking artists if they can use a piece of art for blurbing. If needed, you can use the form letter below to ask for permission. If further information is needed, please link them back to this post.

Form Letter

Hi, (artistname). I’d like to ask permission to use an art piece of yours for something. A reward I get from this writer’s patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/draconiconlibrary ) is a story blurb inspired by an image of my choice. He says that if I don’t own the art, I need permission from the artist in question before I’m allowed to submit it, so I was hoping you would be open to letting that happen.

The story blurb won’t be used as ‘canon’ for the image, and he won’t be hosting the image, either. All blurbs get marked as purely ‘inspired by’ the image, with all materials linked back to the artists responsible, with only the blurb hosted by him.

If you have any further questions, please let me know so I can answer them. I really love your art, and would really like to see what he gets inspired to write based on this piece.
