Honestly i would love to get back into Vrchat but last time i played it i got overwhelmed from all the new people on it. It was a much better chill place back when it first came out.

2026-01-07 00:38:16 +0000 UTCI'm glad to hear you've gotten some sponsors lined up! The optimization video sounds quite interesting, it's definitely something I'm interested in having a better intuitive understanding of. The iGPU thing is also interesting for me because I've been thinking about lowering the energy, noise, and space footprint of my homelab in my next refresh and iGPUs (possibly Strix Halo? Not sure if it'll be worth the premium over used APUs) would be a big part of it.

2026-01-05 20:48:59 +0000 UTCHey Emily, I just joined here. There had been some issues with the YouTube membership side of things as I could not join the discord server if I was just a YouTube member only. It kept saying that I had missing access even though I was at the right tier for membership. I don’t know if this is something that you would need to fix or if it’s a missing link between YouTube and discord or some backend API something or rather that got messed up. Thought I’d let you know about this. Thanks, Franklin James (BarnMinecraft on discord)

2026-01-04 17:08:09 +0000 UTCFunny enough, I also have a video about when “good enough” is good enough. It applies to tech, too, there’s always a point where tweaking settings or managing cables where pursuing perfection can become counterproductive.

2025-12-29 05:52:42 +0000 UTCI’m glad! ❤️ It’s hard to tell sometimes when I’m stuck in my head, so it really means a lot to hear that.

2025-12-29 05:50:27 +0000 UTCAh well if I do a video on VRChat, I’ll need to get a model and optimize it. I’ve done it before and managed what I consider to be impressive optimizations without sacrificing much in the way of quality or features. One of the things people on VRC don’t realize is 200MB in VRAM for an avatar might not seem like much if you have multiple gigs of it, but add the world, the framebuffer, and everything else on your PC using VRAM (because most apps are just Chromium web apps now), you’re going to run out quick. My PC idles at something like 2GB used on the desktop once things like chat apps, Steam, a browser, and a media player are running.

2025-12-29 05:49:23 +0000 UTCYeah same, that’s why I was okay with working with them, I have some experience with them from LMG. If a brand wants to do something I want to do anyway, or if they’re a brand I’m familiar with and trust well enough, I’m generally going to be open to it.

2025-12-29 05:42:11 +0000 UTCNo need to, that was just the instigating factor, VRC is notorious for poorly optimized worlds and on occasion you’ll see avatars with like 500k-1 million triangles. It’s all user generated for the most part, so you have a mix of the rare professional model with tight optimization, and far more frequently models bought off Booth or Gumroad that are render-quality. Usually fully custom models are fine unless there’s a reason for them to have a ton of features baked in (like Vtubers doing in-VR filming). It is VERY not straightforward to optimize a model, especially if you just naively shrink textures or combine polygons. Not only will that not work very well, it’ll look bad too.

2025-12-29 05:37:19 +0000 UTCYeah that’s something I’ve identified as a thing to do, I just feel like with this much of a gap I need the next one to be good, you know?

2025-12-29 05:30:13 +0000 UTCAs bad as it might sound, might be worth throwing in some low effort videos just so that you can get a feel for things again. A monthly roundup of tech news, and your opinion on it, for example. Just to greese your creative wheels so you can go "Ew, let's not do that again." or "Oh, that went well, maybe I can build off that." That kind of trial and error can be important.

2025-12-28 19:09:13 +0000 UTCNo matter what you post I know we'll learn a lot, please don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. You have *so* many great ideas and your style is always engaging and well-paced. The USB and switching to Linux concepts caught me eye especially. I've been playing a lot with Proxmox and thinking about the whole Broadcom/VMWare cost nightmare - if you made a vid about the alternatives, even a sponsored spot with Scale or Nutanix, I'd watch the heck out of that.

2025-12-28 18:24:01 +0000 UTCHonestly these plants sound great! I know it's super hard, but the idea of something being interesting enough is definitely not a problem for the folks who are following you for content. I can say with with pretty good confidence that we'll enjoy anything that you are creating. Personally as a VRChat enjoyer too, that one definitely is interesting to me (and hey, if you need an extra camera person on the VR side of things, I'd be happy to help haha). Best of luck, and excited for the new year!
