NEW VIDEO: How a simple mistake ruined my new PC (and my YouTube channel)

When a new workstation causes more issues than it solves, frustration can cloud the mind and lead to some unfortunate carelessness... And devastating consequences.

Thank you all so much for your support. You guys get to see the video the day before it goes live on YouTube, and I've credited everyone who's been a patron since the channel intro video - currently active or not. This video represents the state of my art in terms of production value, and while I might not be able to keep this up going forward, I'm getting better with the camera and with DaVinci Resolve.

I've had some people reach out and offer to edit videos for me, and while I appreciate that, I feel strongly that I should at least know how to do it myself before I delegate any tasks like that. I do have a lot of video concepts either already written or in planning, so I want to start getting them out as soon as I can now that I'm back in action.

Nicely executed video :) And a big batch of lemons to start brewing a good number of bonus ones. I'm sure people would be quite interested in hearing about your deck-based emergency workstation :)

Emil Johansen

I spent many months after a RAM swap (due to the previous set failing) assuming that the intermittent-but-regular crashes were due to old drivers somehow now causing conflict or lingering OS corruption caused before the swap, because I was thinking "it can't be that when I just replaced it." Once I actually took notice of the appropriate section of the BIOS after a BIOS update, I saw that the speed it was set to run at conflicted with what it said it was running at. So despite being set to the 3600 XMP profile, it was running at the 2400 JEDEC default. So I set the multiplier to 32 instead of 36 in case that was why (as research suggested that incompatibility as a possibility), and it has been solid ever since. Maybe if I'd had a newer generation of CPU it would have been happier, but since I don't I can't say either way (although maybe I'll look into that when I do that same old-PC-to-NAS transition if I think it would be cheap enough to justify it). I guess sometimes we all just run on automatic and don't check again to make sure until either we decide we've had enough of putting up with it or we've had enough time away from it to give it a fresh perspective.
