Pride Spotlight - Ducky

We're in the homestretch of June and Im trying to see how many of these I can make before the month's end. So next up is DUCKY!

All of my characters on CDN were krogan so I wanted to challenge myself by playing as another alien race. Ducky was heavily inspired by Peridot from Steven Universe; her colors, the shape of her head, even had the voice actress in mind for her own voice. She is a small neurotic salarian who just wants to get out of her family's political drama.

Salarians by nature don't have a sex drive, and rarely do they have romantic feelings for others or their own kind. Their society is based on politics and complex breeding contracts which helps various clans come into power or ally themselves with stronger clans. Since the salarian population is 90% male, (only those few eggs which get fertilized become female, with the rest hatching male) the small percentage of eggs that hatch female give a clan an edge when it comes to negotiations.

An idea I never got to play with when it came to Ducky is that she was something of an "accident". She and her sister came from the same egg, but her sister came out as the healthier child while Ducky was shorter and with a squat head. Despite her family being a lowly fishing clan, her family still saw her as a useful political pawn. When Ducky was old enough, she ran away from home and settled at the Citadel, ignoring her family's pleas for her to return. Since her sister is technically the "better" bargaining chip, her parents made a deal with Ducky that if she can prove she can maintain a stable lifestyle on her own they would let her be.

Since then Ducky was determined to prove she was independent enough, despite being at the age where she shouldn't be away from home/family. But for her, anywhere was better than home! Ducky managed to make a few friends and connections and the one person she really connected with was another elderly salarian named Emon Spiza, who also had his own family grudges. Huzzah to mutual hatred for clan politics!
