A clan is composed of pods that share calls and also share maternal ancestry. While whales from different clans do interact and interbreed with one another, they do not share any call types.
Population/Community: This is the largest social unit for resident killer whales. A population (also known as a community) is composed of whales that interact and interbreed with one another. A resident killer whale population may contain multiple clans or sometimes just a single clan.

Man this was a doozy to make. I said I was gonna try and do traditional work but I dont know if I would have had the room on paper to make a chart like this one! What's funny is I worked on the idea of zorca clans before learning about this bit of trivia, and now knowing there are orca groups called clans pleases me! X3 The community also fits them because that's when all the zorca clans come together for their courting event!
