It's been established that Avalon is significantly more powerful as a military than any other faction we know of, especially when it comes to the higher tiers of power. They knew about the incoming waves, the exact composition and prepared and fortified. It feels like they either should have lost significantly fewer people or every other faction should be completely overrun.
