I think you should check out "Monster" (2023) by Hirokazu Koreeda. He's one of my favorite Japanese directors. Usually, he writes his own screenplays, but for this one, he took a script from the renowned writer Yuji Sakamoto, and it won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes. Koreeda's other film "Shoplifters" won Best Feature Film at Cannes too. I heard he's not super supported in Japan because his movies often show the unpleasant side of the country, but he's pretty popular in Korea. I have at least 5 movies that I really like from him. I'd appreciate it if you could react to this one!
