Also why does she roll her R's in such an affected way? Questions for the ages.

Why can't I finish this episode? the link isn't working.

Haha, loved Bret's intro on Fast Times. I was born in '79 so I didn't see it until much later in my teens in the 90s. But having grown up in Ventura, a pretty slow beach town north of LA with a not so great reputation, I totally related to it in a lot of ways. Fast Times could have been anywhere on the coast in southern California and I think in a lot of ways, it's still applicable today at its core. I currently live in north county San Diego and believe me, the spirit of Spicoli is alive and well. In fact, I can't count the number of "Spicolis" I've dated over the years and still do. I can't get away from them. "All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine." 😳

Not that anyone is particularly interested but Lloyd Cole who gets a mention comes from a little sleepy village called Chapel-en-le-Frith less than ten miles from where I live.

Guy Lewis

Why would she say Aziz Ansari wasn’t affected by the accusations made? He actually postponed all the projects he had last year and went total MIA.

Sebastian Abascal

That that sociopath so tickles the fancy of progressivists is owing either to a perverse taste for vicarious violence or a closeted taste for rough trade.

Michael Walsh

Woke Hollywood apparently is still expressing its existential butthurt over Trump, who they blame for the Green Book win, and for everything evil, and you and everyone like you is literally Hitler, down to the little square mustache. Now shut up and eat your vegetables, and watch the RBG biopic. If the Progressivist asshattery were restricted to Hollywood, I wouldn't care. But it has taken over our universities and much of our politics. Oh, and "Asshat Spike Lee" -!!!!! LOL, as the young people say.

Michael Walsh

Man you turn into Bateman interviewing a woman. Love you bro!

Erik

Great episode. One of my favorites. I was glad to hear some nuanced pushback on Bret's take on MeToo. "Why can't Harvey find a nice girl?" Was that a real question?

Jenny Splitter

Completely obsessed with her accent and the the sultry way she purrs "amuse bouche" [tilted heart eyes emoji]

Stephen O'Flynn

Just a terrific episode as always. No one cuts through the BS better than BEE.

Adam Long

Actually, I kind of enjoy imagining the face first and googling to see a photo later. But it might make more sense to have a photo of the guest regardless.

Samuel Setenyi

Is there a reason that the podcast thumbnail often isn't a photo of the guest? It's nice to put a face to a voice (without having to Google it). Another great episode!

Alex Bielovich

I loved it when he mentioned the ‘bi-sexual gaze’ - a compelling alternative theoretical lense through which to view cinema sex that wasn’t the cudgel that she really wanted. The cognitive dissonance was palpable.

Michael morris

Also does that disingenuous thing, he didn’t go to jail ergo he’s just fine. Hasn’t she seen the crucible: “my name is all I have.” Could you just imagine the stigma and character negation of being #metoo’d? Deserved if you’ve been serially abusive like Weinstein but, what if your crime is to be not the best date or husband? It reeks of totalitarianism.

Michael morris

Would you mind putting in the show notes what minute the interview with the guests start?

Sb

She skirted his question on overreach and weaponisation of Metoo when he raised the chilling Adams case, was deliberately obtuse when he brought up Ansari and CK; she became a politician suddenly. From someone aufait with the nuances of the war on drugs her ignorance of these cases doesn’t pass the smell test. Very disappointing, which is jarring because the interview was so good up to that point. Her regaling of how Traffic, one of my favourite films, got made was especially compelling. Keep up the good work Bret. This has been my favourite podcast for some time. M

Michael morris

Agreed. I'd up my payments for early access to tickets.

Thomas Rankin

One of my favourite eps. I’ve never heard that Terry Malick anecdote before (and I’m a big fan).

David

Vicious. One of the best monologues yet.

Christopher Webster

Great insights into how the sausage gets made!

FlyingWaffle

This was the first BEEP I pulled the ripcord on halfway through. Monologue content predictable and the interview too insider-y.

Michael MacGowan

I worked in LA in showbiz for my entire adult professional life until 4 years ago (21-44). Sometimes I miss it and then I hear someone like Bickford and I want to fall to me knees in gratitude I’m out of there. Che’s revolution ‘kind of worked’ in Cuba....wish BEE would have asked her if the gays and artists thrown into prison after that ‘working’ revolution felt the same way. And the breathy, oh-so-exhausted jades affectation. Ugh.

MikeE

Another great episode. When are you going on Joe Rogan's show?

Sutter Kaine

I'm only about 5 minutes in, and I already had to come comment. I wouldn't call Fast Times entirely indifferently shot. When I rewatched it, I was struck by the sex scene (loss of virginity) in the dugout being shot from the female's point of view. It seemed so innovative and effective to me, as a female. Well, duh... it was shot by a female director. PS: You know what was awesome? The South Coast Plaza c. 1986, a temple of capitalism.
